Canton Of Le Pays De Serres
The canton of Le Pays de Serres is an administrative division of the Lot-et-Garonne department, southwestern France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Penne-d'Agenais. Cantons Of France
The cantons of France are territorial subdivisions of the France, French Republic's Departments of France, departments and Arrondissements of France, arrondissements. Apart from their role as organizational units in relation to certain aspects of the administration of public services and justice, the chief purpose of the cantons today is to serve as Constituency, constituencies for the election of members of the representative assemblies established in each of France's territorial departments (Departmental council (France), departmental councils, formerly general councils). For this reason, such elections were known in France as "cantonal elections", until 2015 when their name was changed to "departmental elections" to match the departmental councils' name. La Sauvetat-de-Savères
La Sauvetat-de-Savères (; oc, La Sauvetat de Savèras) is a commune in the Lot-et-Garonne department in south-western France. History La Sauvetat-de-Savères was, in the 12th century, a bastide built up around a Benedictine priory. From the jurisdiction of Puymirol in the 13th century, La-Sauvetat-de-Savères became chief town of the bailiwick of the same name in the 14th. A garrison was placed there, in 1587, for keeping watch Puymirol. On August 16, 1589, Villars attacked four companies of Laugnac and Belzunce who had taken refuge there, and exerted reprisals on the city. Saint-Maurin
Saint-Maurin (; oc, Sent Maurin) is a commune in the Lot-et-Garonne department in south-western France. The village lies on the road from Agen to Bourg-de-Visa in the valley of the Escornebœuf, a tributary of the Séoune. It is in the arrondissement of Agen and the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The population is around 450. History Saint-Maurin, the only village in France of that name, is named after the saint to whom the village's 11th-century abbey is dedicated. The abbey, parts of which still stand beside the village square, was built by Benedictine monks. Reliefs cut into the stone of an archway portray Maurin having the top of his head cut off and his brain spooned out. The abbey was destroyed in the Albigeois war against the cathars, then rebuilt. It was again ravaged in the 14th century by English troops in the Hundred Years War. It was again rebuilt in the 15th century and subsequently attacked by Huguenots in the French Wars of Religion.
