Canton Of Le Canigou
The canton of Le Canigou is an administrative division of the Pyrénées-Orientales department, in southern France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Amélie-les-Bains-Palalda. Cantons Of France
The cantons of France are territorial subdivisions of the France, French Republic's Departments of France, departments and Arrondissements of France, arrondissements. Apart from their role as organizational units in relation to certain aspects of the administration of public services and justice, the chief purpose of the cantons today is to serve as Constituency, constituencies for the election of members of the representative assemblies established in each of France's territorial departments (Departmental council (France), departmental councils, formerly general councils). Reynès
Reynès (; ca, Reiners) is a commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in southern France. Geography Reynès is in the canton of Le Canigou and in the arrondissement of Céret. Population Talc Reynès was home to a very productive talc mine which operated from 1876 to 1987. The extracted talc was used in various industries: soap making in Marseilles, porcelain making in Limoges and leather curing. In 1929 the mine installed an aerial wire system to facilitate the transportation of wagons down into the deep valley. In 1930, 440 tons of talc were extracted from the mine. Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste
Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste (; ) is a commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in southern France, near the border with Spain and the Autonomous Community of Catalonia. The name ''Prats-de-Mollo'' comes from Catalan "meadows of Molló". Molló is a town just across the border and the Col d'Ares. La Preste is a spa resort town that was a separate village but is now included as part of the municipality. Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste was the capital of the eponymous former canton. It forms part of the historical comarca of Vallespir and is part of Northern Catalonia. Montbolo
Montbolo (; ca, Montboló) is a commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in southern France. Geography Localization Montbolo is located in the canton of Le Canigou and in the arrondissement of Céret. Geology Montbolo once had gypsum mines, used for making plaster, and also lutite and dolomite. A landslide in a gypsum stone-pit in Montbolo occurred on 20 March 1886 and killed three workers. Population Sites of interest The Saint-Andrew church of Montbolo was first built in the 12th century and then modified in the 13th, 14th and 17th centuries. At the end of the 19th century, works started for a full repair of the church, but the new roof was entirely destroyed following a storm in January 1900. Other repairs have been made more recently, such as the rebuild of the portal, which destroyed some of the older elements. Mantet
Mantet ( ca, Mentet) is a commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in southern France. Geography Mantet is located in the canton of Le Canigou and in the arrondissement of Prades. The village of Mantet lies at an altitude of 1550 metres about 200 metres below the Col de Mantet. The GR 10 Pyrenean footpath passes through the village so it is one of the few points in the Pyrenees Orientales where hikers can buy provisions and spend the night in comfort.
