Canoeing At The 2020 Summer Olympics
Canoeing at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo was contested in two main disciplines: canoe slalom, to take place from 25 to 30 July 2021, and canoe sprint, from 2 to 7 August. The slalom competitions will be held at the Kasai Canoe Slalom Course; whereas the sprint events will be staged at Sea Forest Waterway. The competition featured 16 events. The programme saw four event changes, all replacements, from 2016. In sprint, the men's C-1 200 metres and men's K-2 200 metres were replaced with women's C-1 200 metres and women's C-2 500 metres. In slalom, the men's C-2 was removed. Women's C-1 was added. These three changes were part of the Olympics' move towards gender equality. In addition, the sprint men's K-4 1000 metres was replaced with a shorter race, the men's K-4 500 metres. Canoeing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's C-2 1000 Metres
The men's C-2 1000 metres sprint canoeing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 2 and 3 August 2021 at the Sea Forest Waterway. 28 canoeists (14 boats of 2) from 14 nations competed. Background This was the 20th appearance of the event, one of four events to be held at every Summer Games since canoeing was introduced in 1936. The 2019 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, reigning World Champions are Liu Hao (canoeist), Liu Hao and Wang Hao (canoeist), Wang Hao of China. The reigning Olympic champions are Sebastian Brendel and Jan Vandrey of Germany; Brendel will return, this time paired with Tim Hecker (canoeist), Tim Hecker. Qualification A National Olympic Committee (NOC) could enter only 1 qualified boat (2 canoeists) in the event. Sideris Tasiadis
Sideris Tasiadis (born 7 May 1990) is a German slalom canoeist of Greek descent who has competed at the international level since 2005.Son of greeks him lived in Thrace, Greece at the village Komara for 10 years during his childhood. Career In 2012, he won a silver medal in the men's C1 at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London behind Tony Estanguet (FRA) and beating two-time Olympic champion Michal Martikán (SVK). He finished fifth in the C1 event four years later at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Tasiadis earned a second Olympic medal in the C1 event by finishing third at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Lukáš Rohan
Lukáš Rohan (; born 30 May 1995) is a Czech slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2010. He is from Mělník, Czech Republic but lives and trains in Prague. Lukáš now competes solely in the C1 discipline, however he competed in the C2 discipline alongside Adam Svoboda and Martin Říha at different times between 2010 and 2015. He is coached by his father, Olympic silver medallist Jiří Rohan. Rohan won a silver medal in the C1 event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He also won a silver medal in the C1 team event at the 2021 World Championships in Bratislava. He won three medals at the European Championships including a silver medal in the C1 event at the 2020 European Championships in Prague and a silver and a bronze medal in the C1 team event at the 2014 and 2018 events, respectively. Benjamin Savšek (born 24 March 1987) is a Slovenian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2002. He won eight medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with two golds (C1: 2017, C1 team: 2022), three silvers (C1: 2014, 2015, C1 team: 2018) and three bronzes (C1: 2013, C1 team: 2014, 2015). He also won 11 medals at the European Canoe Slalom Championships (7 golds, 1 silver and 3 bronzes). Savšek was the World No. 1 in the C1 event in 2015.
