The men's C-1 1000 metres event was an open-style, individual canoeing event conducted as part of the Canoeing at the 1972 Summer Olympics program. Vasyl Yurchenko (russian: Василий Юрченко)(alternate spellings: Vasily Yurchenko, Vasiliy Jurtzhenko, born 26 May 1950) is a Soviet-born Ukrainian sprint canoeist who competed from the early 1970s to the early 1980s. John Wood (canoeist)
John Joseph Wood (June 7, 1950 – January 23, 2013) was a Canadian sprint canoeist who competed from the late 1960s to the later 1970s. Competing in three Summer Olympics, he won the silver medal in the C-1 500 m event at Montreal in 1976. The medal was Canada's first in the sport since 1952. András Törő (born July 10, 1940) is an American sprint canoer who competed from the early 1960s to the mid-1970s. Competing in four Summer Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the C-2 1000 m event at Rome in 1960 along with his doubles partner Imre Farkas. Törő defected from Hungary during the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Earning his degree from the University of Michigan, he went to work as a naval architect and marine engineer.
