Cannons F.C.
Cannons F.C. was a football team from Gibraltar. They played in the Gibraltar Second Division and the Rock Cup. History Cannons FC was founded in 2008. The club spent the majority of its history as the territory's "whipping boys", often finishing at the bottom of the Gibraltar Second Division. After another disappointing season in 2015–16, only finishing ahead of new team College 1975, the club overhauled its squad, benefiting from the dissolution of rivals Pegasus, Red Imps and FC Britannia by signing numerous players from the folded sides. The turnaround of playing staff paid dividends as the side entered the New Year of the 2016–17 season in third place, eventually finishing a comfortable 4th. The team went on to lead the Second Division at the start of the winter break in the 2017–18 season, however, the expulsion of Angels allowed other teams to overtake them. Victoria Stadium (Gibraltar)
Victoria Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Gibraltar. It is currently used mostly for football matches, but also hosts the annual Gibraltar Music Festival. It is located close to Gibraltar Airport just off Winston Churchill Avenue. It was named after the wife of Gibraltarian philanthropist John Mackintosh. Despite initial plans to replace the stadium in the 2010s, the Gibraltar Football Association purchased the stadium from the Government of Gibraltar in April 2017 in order to improve and renovate it. The redevelopment of the stadium is due to start in late 2022, with the national team announcing they will play UEFA and FIFA games in Faro, Portugal. The 2017–18 Rock Cup was a single-leg knockout tournament played by clubs from Gibraltar. This season's version of the Rock Cup was sponsored by Gibtelecom, and is known as the Gibtelecom Rock Cup for sponsorship purposes. This season's edition was held throughout the season for the first time since 2011–12. The winner of this competition, Europa, qualified for the 2018–19 Europa League. As they had also qualified for European competition via the 2017–18 Gibraltar Premier Division, the third place team in the league will take the spot in the Europa League. 2014 Rock Cup
The 2014 Rock Cup was the season of Gibraltar's annual main knock-out football tournament. The competition began on 8 January 2014 with the First Round and ended with the final held on 10 May 2014. The final was won by Lincoln Red Imps, beating College Europa with 1–0. As Lincoln had already been titled league champion, thus qualifying for 2014–15 UEFA Champions League, College Europa qualified for the first qualifying round of the 2014–15 UEFA Europa League. The draw was held in December 2013 and completely laid out the road to the final with no additional draws needed. All matches were played in the Victoria Stadium. Gibraltar Second Division
The Gibraltar Second Division was the second tier of football in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, run by the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA). The league was founded in 1909 after the expansion of the Gibraltar Premier Division and as of the 2016-17 season contains 10 clubs. All of the sides competing are amateur. Teams in this division, along with the Gibraltar U-15 national team, enter the Rock Cup in the first round except for 3 clubs who receive byes to the second round. Promotion was not regular until 2007-08 due to the prevalence of reserve teams in the division. As of the 2016-17 season, league champions are automatically promoted, and the runners up enter a play-off with the second-from-bottom team in the Gibraltar Premier Division. However, in the 2014-15 season, the top two teams were automatically promoted with no relegation, due to the Premier Division expanding to 10 teams for the 2015-16 season onward.
