Cannon City, Minnesota
Cannon City is an unincorporated community in Cannon City Township, Rice County, Minnesota, United States, five miles northeast of Faribault. The community is located at the junction of Rice County Road 20 (Cannon City Boulevard) and Crystal Lake Trail. Cannon City was platted in 1855, and named after the nearby Cannon River. The community of Cannon City was the model for Metropolisville in the novel ''The Mystery of Metropolisville'' by Edward Eggleston Edward Eggleston (December 10, 1837 – September 3, 1902) was an American historian and novelist. Area code 507 is the telephone numbering plan code for the southern fifth of Minnesota, including cities such as Rochester, Mankato, Worthington, Fairmont, Albert Lea, Northfield, and Austin. Edward Eggleston
Edward Eggleston (December 10, 1837 – September 3, 1902) was an American historian and novelist. Biography Eggleston was born in Vevay, Indiana, to Joseph Cary Eggleston and Mary Jane Craig. The author George Cary Eggleston was his brother. As a child, he was too ill to regularly attend school, so his education was primarily provided by his father. He was ordained as a Methodist minister in 1856. He wrote a number of tales, some of which, especially the "Hoosier" series, attracted much attention. Among these are '' The Hoosier Schoolmaster'', ''The Hoosier Schoolboy'', ''The End of the World'', ''The Faith Doctor'', and ''Queer Stories for Boys and Girls''. He wrote many articles for the children's magazine '' The Little Corporal'', and in 1866 he worked as an editor for the periodical. Cannon River (Minnesota)
The Cannon River a tributary of the Mississippi River flows from Shields Lake near Shieldsville to Red Wing in the U.S. state of Minnesota, where it joins the Mississippi River. It drains a watershed approximately 1460 square miles (3,780 km²) in size. The river flows through the counties of Le Sueur, Rice, Dakota, and Goodhue. The Cannon River has few rapids, but some can be difficult (Class II). Some have claimed lives, as has the confluence with the Little Cannon River in Cannon Falls. Canoes traversing the river must portage several dams; the low header dams are more dangerous than they appear to novices. Faribault ( ) is a city in, and the county seat of, Rice County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 23,352 at the 2010 census. Faribault is approximately south of Minneapolis–Saint Paul. Interstate 35 and Minnesota State Highways 3, 21, and 60 are four of Faribault's main routes. Faribault is situated at the confluence of the Cannon and Straight Rivers in southern Minnesota. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
