Canisius Golden Griffins Men's Ice Hockey
The Canisius Golden Griffins men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Canisius College. The Golden Griffins are a member of Atlantic Hockey. They play at the LECOM Harborcenter in Buffalo, New York across the street from KeyBank Center, home of the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League. Canisius won an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship after winning the Atlantic Hockey title in the conference playoffs, but lost in the first round to top-ranked Quinnipiac. Canisius Golden Griffins
The Canisius College Golden Griffins are composed of 16 teams representing Canisius College in intercollegiate athletics. These teams include men's and women's basketball, cross country, track, lacrosse, soccer, and swimming and diving. Men's sports include baseball, ice hockey, and golf. Women's sports include volleyball, soccer, and softball. The Golden Griffins compete in the NCAA Division I and are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) for most sports, excluding men's ice hockey which competes in Atlantic Hockey. NCAA Division III
NCAA Division III (D-III) is a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States. D-III consists of athletic programs at colleges and universities that choose not to offer athletic scholarships to their student-athletes. The NCAA's first split was into two divisions, the University and College Divisions, in 1956, the College Division was formed for smaller schools that did not have the resources of the major athletic programs across the country. The College Division split again in 1973 when the NCAA went to its current naming convention: Division I, Division II, and Division III. Charles Williams (ice Hockey)
Charles Williams (born March 12, 1992) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He played in the American Hockey League (AHL) and ECHL. Early life Williams was born in Canton, Michigan. He played college hockey at Ferris State University and Canisius College. In 2017, while playing for Canisius, Williams was named a First Team All-American, and was a selected as a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. Playing career On July 17, 2019, Williams continued his career in the ECHL, securing a one-year contract with the Indy Fuel. The Division I AHCA All-American Teams are an annual honor bestowed by the American Hockey Coaches Association to the college hockey players judged to be the top performers in their division. Each team is composed of at least one goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards on ice hockey programs. At least one all-star team has been named by the since the start of NCAA tournament play in 1947–48 after the conclusion of either the regular season or the conference tournaments. Quinnipiac Bobcats Men's Ice Hockey
The Quinnipiac Bobcats men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Quinnipiac University. The Bobcats are a member of ECAC Hockey. They play at the M&T Bank Arena in Hamden, Connecticut. History Quinnipiac College began sponsoring men's ice hockey as a varsity sport for the 1975–76 season. The program began as an independent team before joining ECAC 3 the following year. The program remained with the third-tier conference for over 20 years despite being a Division II school for much of that time. The Braves left ECAC 3 in 1997 and spent a year as a D-II independent before moving up to Division I as part of the university's transition to the top level. Dave Smith (ice Hockey)
David Smith (born November 21, 1968) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of the NCAA RPI Engineers men's ice hockey team, a position he has held since the 2017–18 season. Smith was a member of the 1992–93 Turner Cup champions, the Fort Wayne Komets. Coaching career In 1998, following a six-year professional minor league career, Smith joined the coaching staff of the Miami RedHawks men's ice hockey team as an assistant. Clancy Seymour
Clancy Seymour (born June 19, 1972) is a former Canadian ice hockey coach and player at the college level. He is currently an instructor at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. Ice Hockey Career Clancy Seymour joined Canisius for the 1993 season while the Golden Griffins were still a Division III team. He spent three years playing for the team before graduating with a degree in physical education in 1996. After also receiving his master's from Canisius Seymour returned to the hockey team as an assistant under his former coach Brian Cavanaugh. Clancy was with the Griffins during their transition from the MAAC to Atlantic Hockey in 2003 but was pressed into service as an interim head coach when a player revolt forced Cavanaugh out in December 2004. Seymour remained behind the bench for the duration of the campaign but was himself reprimanded for lack of control over his players.
