Caner Toptaş
Caner Toptaş (born 14 August 2001) is a Turkish weightlifter. He won the silver medal in the 62 kg event at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the 2017 European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships held in Durrës, Albania, he won the silver medal in the men's 56 kg event. Olympic Weightlifting
Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. The ''snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. The ''clean and jerk'' is a combination lift, in which the weight is first taken from the ground to the front of the shoulders (the clean), and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk). The clean and press, wherein a clean was followed by an overhead press, was formerly also a competition lift, but was discontinued due to difficulties in judging proper form. The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is an international multi-sport event for athletes between 15 and 18 years old, organized by the International Olympic Committee. The games are held every four years in staggered summer and winter events consistent with the current Olympic Games format, though in reverse order with Olympic Winter Games held in leap years instead of Summer Olympic Games. The first summer version was held in Singapore from 14 to 26 August 2010 while the first winter version was held in Innsbruck, Austria from 13 to 22 January 2012. Weightlifting At The 2018 Summer Youth Olympics
Weightlifting at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 7 to 13 October. The events took place at Parque Polideportivo Roca in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Qualification Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can enter a maximum of 4 competitors, 2 per each gender. As hosts, Argentina was guaranteed two quotas, 1 athlete per gender and a further 10 boys and 10 girls was to be decided by the Tripartite Commission. However only 9 girls were selected. The remaining 88 places shall be decided by team classification results from qualification events, namely the 2017 World Youth Championships and five continental qualification tournaments. To be eligible to participate at the Youth Olympics athletes must have been born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2003. The 2018 Summer Youth Olympics ( es, Juegos Olímpicos de la Juventud de 2018), officially known as the III Summer Youth Olympic Games, and commonly known as Buenos Aires 2018, were an international sports, cultural, and educational event held from 6 to 18 October 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
