2006 Victorian State Election
The 2006 Victorian state election, held on Saturday, 25 November 2006, was for the 56th Parliament of Victoria. Just over 3 million Victorians registered to vote elected 88 members to the Legislative Assembly and, for the first time, 40 members to the Legislative Council under a proportional representation system (Single transferable voting). The election was conducted by the independent Victorian Electoral Commission. The Labor Party government of Premier Steve Bracks, first elected in 1999, won a third consecutive term with 55 of the 88 lower house seats, down seven from the 62 Labor won in 2002. The Liberal Party opposition of Ted Baillieu won 23 seats, and the National Party led by Peter Ryan won nine seats. One independent member was re-elected, while one lost his seat. Monica Gould
Monica Mary Gould (born 5 May 1957) is a former Australian politician. She was a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Council between September 1993 and November 2006, representing Doutta Galla Province. Gould was born in Melbourne, and finished her secondary studies at a technical college in the suburb of Macleod. She became involved in the Manufacturing Grocers Association trade union, which later merged with the National Union of Workers. In 1980, she became its General Vice-President – a position which she held until her election to parliament. She was also a member of the Australian Council of Trade Unions executive between 1991 and 1993. In 1993, Gould decided to make a move into politics, and succeeded in securing Labor pre-selection for a by-election in the seat of Doutta Galla Province. Electoral District Of Warrandyte
The electoral district of Warrandyte is an Australian electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It is an outer metropolitan electorate and contains the suburbs of Park Orchards, Ringwood North, Warrandyte, Warrandyte North, Warrandyte South, Warranwood, Wonga Park, most of Donvale, and parts of Chirnside Park, Doncaster East, and Ringwood. Warrandyte was originally a marginal seat, being held by the Liberal Party from the creation of the electorate at the 1976 election until it lost government at the 1982 election. The seat was then Labor-held until the 1988 election, when Phil Honeywood became the only Liberal to win a seat from Labor. Honeywood made the seat very secure for the Liberals, to the extent that he comfortably held the seat at the 2002 election, despite over half of his Legislative Assembly colleagues losing their seats. Phil Honeywood
Phillip Neville Honeywood (born 26 April 1960) is a former Australian politician. Early Life Born in Sydney, New South Wales, he received his Higher School Certificate in 1977 and the following year was a Rotary Youth Exchange student to Gakushuin High School in Tokyo. He was an executive for International Express Company in Japan in 1982, and was executive assistant to the chief executive officer of Gosford City Council in 1983. In 1984 he received his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the Australian National University in Canberra. Career In 1985 he became an Industrial Relations Officer with Shell Australia in Melbourne, and in 1986 became president of the Malvern branch of the Young Liberals, and was also a member of the Liberal Party's Youth Affairs Policy Committee. Electoral District Of Malvern
The electoral district of Malvern is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It is named for the suburb of Malvern and also includes Malvern East, Armadale, Kooyong and parts of Glen Iris and Toorak. The electorate has been held by the Liberal Party (or its predecessor) since its creation in 1945, and for most of that time has been regarded as one of the Liberal Party's safest seats in Melbourne. In all but one election, the Liberals have won enough votes on the first count to win the seat outright. As a measure of how safe Malvern is for the Liberals, Opposition Leader Robert Doyle easily retained the seat with 60.2 percent of the two-party vote even as Labor won its biggest majority ever at the state level. Robert Keith Bennett Doyle (born 20 May 1953) is an Australian politician who was the 103rd Lord Mayor of Melbourne, elected on 30 November 2008 until he resigned on 4 February 2018 amidst allegations of sexual harassment. He was previously Member for Malvern in the Legislative Assembly of Victoria from 1992 to 2006 and Leader of the Victorian Opposition from 2002 to 2006, representing the Liberal Party. Electoral District Of Mornington
The electoral district of Mornington is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. The electorate can be described as outer metropolitan and rural, including animal farming, grape production and wineries. The district is 155 square kilometres in area. It was first created in 1859 when the Electoral district of Evelyn and Mornington was abolished and split in two. The district of Mornington initially included the entire Mornington Peninsula, Phillip Island and French Island. Currently it includes Mornington, Mount Eliza, Mount Martha and Tuerong, and parts of Baxter and Moorooduc. Mornington has been held by the Liberal Party since it was re-created in 1985. Sang Minh Nguyen or Nguyễn Minh Sang (born 1 January 1960) is a Vietnamese-Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Council from May 1996 until November 2006, representing Melbourne West Province. Biography Nguyen was born in the Vietnamese town of Long Xuyên.
