Candiac, Quebec
Candiac is an off-island suburb of Montreal, in the Canadian province of Quebec; it is located on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River opposite Montreal near La Prairie. The population as of the Canada 2016 Census was 21,047. History Candiac was created January 31, 1957, when the government of Quebec accepted the request of a Canadian-European investors group, the ''Candiac Development Corporation''. The investors had collected over $4.5 million and bought of land from farmers and the neighbouring towns. In its early days, Candiac was home to 320 people who mostly lived near the St. Lawrence River. Most of the inhabitants were either farmers or Montrealers who owned a second residence in Candiac. Candiac was named after the birthplace of Louis-Joseph de Montcalm, who was born in 1712 at Château de Candiac in Vestric-et-Candiac, near Nîmes, in France. Candiac (also designated exo4, formerly known as Delson-Candiac) is a commuter railway line in Greater Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is operated by Exo, the organization that operates public transport services across this region. The Candiac line was originally operated by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) as part of its ''South-Eastern railway line'' between Windsor Station and Farnham from 1887 until 1980. The former AMT resumed passenger service on this line in 2001, while Exo assumed current service on June 1, 2017. There are nine inbound and nine outbound trains each weekday. Overview This line links the Lucien-L'Allier station in downtown Montreal with Candiac, on Montreal's South Shore. The Exo (public transit) Le Richelain sector is the public transportation system for the municipalities of La Prairie, Candiac and Saint-Philippe, which are suburbs lying southeast of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. Originally the communities around Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu were included but the town now has its own public transit system which serves that area. The sector will merge with the Exo Roussillon sector when the Réseau express métropolitain opens on July 31, 2023. Commuter service to Montreal is the major function of the sector, either directly to Terminus Centre-Ville via a reserved bus lane on the Champlain Bridge or services to Terminus Longueuil with a connection to the metro towards downtown Montreal. Exo ( ko, 엑소; stylized in all caps) is a South Korean-Chinese boy band based in Seoul formed by SM Entertainment in 2011 and debuted in 2012.
