Canberra Raiders 2009
The 2009 Canberra Raiders season was the 28th in the club's history. They competed in the NRL's 2009 Telstra Premiership and finished the regular season 13th (out of 16). Pre-season The Canberra Raiders lost founding father Les McIntyre in the pre-season in February leading to the disruption of a pre-season camp and his name being embroidered on the club jerseys for the rest of the season 2009 season. Season summary Despite a disappointing start to the season for the Raiders, losing too many close matches, they were able to defeat the Melbourne Storm 26 – 16 at Canberra Stadium (Canberra's first victory over Melbourne in 7 years and 14 games) in round 16, keeping their slim finals hopes alive. The Raiders in round 21 handed the Brisbane Broncos club the heaviest defeat in their history with a 56–0 trashing at Canberra Stadium, the largest winning margin of the season. Parramatta Stadium
Parramatta Stadium was a sports stadium in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia, 23 kilometres west of Sydney's central business district. The stadium was the home ground of several western Sydney-based sports teams, at the time of closure the most notable were the Parramatta Eels of the National Rugby League and the Western Sydney Wanderers of the A-League. The Parramatta Eels are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the Sydney suburb of Parramatta that competes in the National Rugby League. Campbelltown Stadium, formerly Orana Park and Campbelltown Sports Ground, is a multi-use stadium in Leumeah, New South Wales, Australia, owned by Campbelltown City Council. It is the home ground of the Western Suburbs Magpies and the Wests Tigers rugby league clubs. Wests Tigers
The Wests Tigers are an Australian professional Rugby league, rugby league football team, based in the Inner West and South West Sydney. They have competed in the National Rugby League since being formed at the end of the 1999 NRL season as a joint-venture club between the Balmain Tigers and the Western Suburbs Magpies. 1989 League Legends Cup
The 1989 League Legends Cup is an annual rugby league match between NRL clubs the Canberra Raiders and the Wests Tigers. The match is played to commemorate the 1989 Grand Final, which has been called the greatest Grand Final ever. The grand final was actually between the Raiders and the Balmain Tigers, but since the Tigers merged with the Western Suburbs Magpies in 2000, the 1989 League Legend Cup match is played between the Raiders and the joint venture. The cup is contested only once per season, so in the years where the Raiders and Tigers are scheduled to meet twice, the clubs decide which of those two matches will decide the winner of the trophy.
