Canara College
Canara College was started in 1973 by the C.H.S. Association, which has managed educational institutions since 1891. It is affiliated with Mangalore University. The college provides three years degree courses in Arts, Science, Commerce and Computers to men and women. Over 27 years, they gained 86 ranks in the University Examination, including 10 first ranks. Objective It is the college's goal to provide a sound education while also fostering good character traits, patriotism and modern sensibilities. Extracurricular activities to also prepare students includes: National Service Scheme, Arts Association, Commerce Association, Science Association, Literary Association, Fine Arts Association, Amateur Speaker's Club, Games and Sports Association, Ladies Association, and blood donation. Mangalore University commonly known as, MU is a public university in Konaje, Mangaluru, Karnataka, India. In 2021, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded Mangalore University 'B' grade. History Mangalore University was established in 1980 with jurisdiction over the districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu. National Service Scheme
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government sector public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year in 1969. Aimed at developing student's personality through community service, NSS is a voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 level working for a campus-community (esp. Mid-day Meal Scheme
The Midday Meal Scheme is a school meal programme in India designed to better the nutritional standing of school-age children nationwide. The programme supplies free lunches on working days for children in government primary and upper primary schools, government aided Anganwadis, ''Madarsa'' and ''Maqtabs''. Serving 120 million children in over 1.27 million schools and Education Guarantee Scheme centres, the Midday Meal Scheme is the largest of its kind in the world. The Midday Meal Scheme has been implemented in the Union Territory of Puducherry under the French Administration since 1930. Kanara, also known as Karavali is the historically significant stretch of land situated by the southwestern coast of India, alongside the Arabian Sea in the present-day Indian state of Karnataka. The region comprises three civil districts, namely: Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada. Ammembal Subba Rao Pai
Ammembal Subba Rao Pai (19 November 1852 – 25 July 1909) was a leading lawyer of Mangalore, India. He was the founder of Canara Bank, now one of India's leading banks, and Canara High School in Mangalore. Though he was a lawyer and a banker by profession, he was an educationist and social reformer by temperament. He helped shape the future of Dakshina Kannada District and of the GSB community in Karnataka. Early life Pai was the youngest of the four sons of Upendra Pai, a lawyer practicing in the Munsif's court at Mulki, near Mangalore.
