CanalSat
Canal+ is a French subscription provider associated to the channel of the same name. It is owned by Vivendi (owner of Canal+) with a hundred percent share. History In 1992, Canalsatellite was launched, the shareholders were Canal+ Group (66 percent) and Lagardère Active (34 percent), a subsidiary of Lagardère. On 27 April 1996, Canalsatellite launched as a digital satellite platform, which was the first in Europe. Canal+ Caraïbes
Canal+ Caraïbes is a direct broadcasting satellite service serving the French Overseas Departments of the Caribbean, as well as French Guiana. The service was launched on 1 August 1998, under the name CanalSatellite Caraibes. It is wholly owned by the Groupe Canal+, and is broadcast on Intelsat 903 at 34.5° West. Channels CanalSat Caraïbes had to change satellites to permit the launch of the New High Definition channels. On 11 October 2008, CanalSat Caraïbes offered a "Freesat" Service, which only requires a viewing card and no subscription; it is very similar to the TNTSAT Service offered in France. CanalSat Caraïbes launched a High Definition Service, 'l'option HD'. It originally composed of Disney Cinemagic HD, Canal+ HD and National Geographic HD. Groupe Canal+ is a French mass media company. It is owned and controlled by Vivendi and has a film library in excess of 5,000 films. Vivendi has sold some parts of Canal+ to private investors which are still using the name of Canal+. It is headquartered in Issy-les-Moulineaux, in the suburbs of Paris. The ''Wall Street Journal'' described Canal+ as "the French film industry's biggest financial backer, beloved by French cineastes". It is a major source of finance for domestic film production, participating in the financing of the vast majority of films produced in France. It also has its own subsidiary companies with direct involvement in film production. Canal+ Calédonie, originally called Canal Satellite Nouvelle-Calédonie and CanalSat Calédonie, is a satellite provider based in the Overseas French Department of New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna, and with reduced offers in Vanuatu. It was launched in 1999 to distribute satellite television to the region. It offered 48 C=channels, four radio stations and eight international channels.
