Canadian Society Of Landscape Architects
The Canadian Society of Landscape Architects ( French:''Association des architectes paysagistes du Canada''; CSLA-AAPC) is the national organization representing 1600 landscape architects in Canada's ten provinces and three territories. The organization was founded in 1934. Its mission is to "advance the art, science and business of landscape architecture." One of the founding members was Lorrie Dunington-Grubb, co-founder with her husband Howard of the Sheridan Nurseries. In 1944 she became president of the society. A landscape architect is someone who practices landscape architecture. Regulations of the profession vary by country and state. Lorrie Dunington-Grubb
Lorrie Alfreda Dunington-Grubb (1877 – 17 January 1945) was an English landscape architect. She moved to Canada in 1911 with her husband and business partner Howard Dunington-Grubb where they founded Sheridan Nurseries. She was active in garden design, a writer and a patron of the arts. Britain Lorrie Alfreda Dunington was born in England in 1877. Her childhood was spent in India, South Africa and Australia. She attended Swanley Horticultural College in England where she studied garden design for two years. After graduating she obtained a position as head gardener of an Irish estate. She formed a partnership with H. Selfe-Leonard, a gardener particularly known for his rock gardens, and they designed gardens throughout Britain. Leonard was a follower of Gertrude Jekyll. Sheridan Nurseries
Sheridan Nurseries is a Canadian garden supplies company based in the Toronto area. The company has over of land for growing plants and eight garden centers. Employment varies seasonally, but during peak periods it has over 1,000 staff. History The British landscape architects Howard and Lorrie Dunington-Grubb founded Sheridan Nurseries in 1913 in the hamlet of Sheridan outside Oakville, Ontario. They bought of land, of which only about turned out to be suitable for ornamental plants. The Dunington-Grubbs hired Sven Herman Stensson to run the nursery after he responded to an advertisement in an English paper. By 1926 the nursery had grown to , with a wide range of trees, shrubs and perennials. Cornelia Oberlander
Cornelia Hahn Oberlander (20 June 1921 – 22 May 2021) was a German-born Canadian landscape architect. Her firm, Cornelia Hahn Oberlander Landscape Architects, was founded in 1953, when she moved to Vancouver. During her career she contributed to the designs of many high-profile buildings in both Canada and the United States, including the Robson Square and the Law Courts Complex in Vancouver, the National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian Chancery in Washington D.C., the Library Square at the Vancouver Public Library, the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia, and Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly Building in Yellowknife. Don Vaughan (landscape Architect)
Don W. Vaughan L.L.D. (born June 21, 1937) is an American landscape architect based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Biography Vaughan was born into a family involved in the timber industry in Coos Bay, Oregon, United States. His grandfather owned a logging company called Coos Bay Logging. In 1965, Vaughan received his bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from the University of Oregon. In 1971, he established the firm Don Vaughan & Associates. In 1974, he became the consulting campus landscape architect for the University of Victoria in Canada, a role in which he continued until 2008. During the late 1980s, Vaughan left landscape architecture and focused on fine arts, receiving a fine arts degree from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver in 1989.
