Canadian Oil Companies, Limited was a Canadian integrated oil and gas company based in Toronto, Ontario. The company operated between 1908 and 1962 and was best known for the White Rose gasoline brand it sold across Canada. At the time of its sale to Shell Canada in 1962, Canadian Oil Companies was the country's last major domestically-owned petroleum company. History The history of Canadian Oil Companies, Limited began in March 1904 when four oil companies from Southwestern Ontario amalgamated into a single holding company. The companies included in the amalgamation were the Canadian Consolidated Oil Company, Limited; the Canadian Oil Refining Company, Limited; the Sun Oil Refining Company of Hamilton, Limited; and the Grant Hamilton Oil Company of Toronto, Limited. Herbert Wilfred Herridge
Herbert Wilfred (Bert) Herridge (February 28, 1895 – October 19, 1973) was a Canadian politician and Member of Parliament. Born in London, England, Herridge immigrated to Canada with his family in 1906; after stopping in Winnipeg, they settled in Nakusp, British Columbia. He attended the Ontario Agricultural College from 1909 to 1914 when he enlisted in 54th (Kootenay) Battalion of the Canadian Army during World War I. He was wounded at the Battle of the Somme in 1916. While recuperating at a military hospital in Devon, he met his future wife. Herridge returned to Canada where he took over the family's tree farm and helped found the Great War Veterans' Association. Herridge became active in the British Columbia Liberal Party becoming vice-president in 1932 and then president the next year. Fred Eaglesmith
Frederick John Elgersma (born July 9, 1957), known by the stage name Fred Eaglesmith, is a Canadian alternative country singer-songwriter. He is known for writing songs about vehicles, rural life, down-and-out characters, lost love and quirky rural folk. His songwriting uses techniques of short story writing, including unreliable narrators, surprise endings, and plot twists. In 2016, Eaglesmith toured extensively with his band. Oil Museum Of Canada
The Oil Museum of Canada, is a petroleum heritage museum in Oil Springs, Ontario, Canada. The museum is located on the site where James Miller Williams dug the first commercial oil well on the continent in 1858. The museum's property, and the lands surrounding it were designated as the "First Commercial Oil Field National Historic Site of Canada" in 1925. The museum itself was opened to the public in July 1960 and renovated from 2021 to 2022. History Interest for an oil museum that paid tribute to Canada's early oil history in Lambton County began to surface in 1955 when Canadian Oil Companies Ltd. purchased the land where James Miller Williams established North America's first commercial oil well.
