Canadian Olympic Committee
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC; french: Comité olympique canadien) is a private, non-profit organization that represents Canada at the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It is also a member of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO). James Logan (ice Hockey)
James "Jim" Logan (born September 17, 1933) is a Canadian ice hockey player. Early life Logan was born in Toronto. He played junior hockey with the St. Michael's Buzzers. Career Logan was a member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen who won the bronze medal for Canada in ice hockey at the 1956 Winter Olympics. He was the leading scorer in the tournament with 15 points (seven goals and eight assists). Anne Heggtveit
Anne Heggtveit, (born January 11, 1939) is a former alpine ski racer from Canada. She was an Olympic gold medallist and double world champion in 1960. Early years Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Heggtveit was raised in New Edinburgh, one of the oldest areas of the city. She was encouraged into alpine skiing by her father, Halvor Heggtveit, a Canadian cross-country champion who qualified for the Winter Olympics in 1932, but did not compete. His parents had emigrated from Norway to North Dakota. She learned to ski at Camp Fortune ski area in the nearby Gatineau Hills of Quebec, northwest of Ottawa, and was a student at Lisgar Collegiate Institute in Ottawa. Heggtveit was a ski racing prodigy, invited at age seven to serve as a forerunner to a downhill race at Lake Placid in 1946. André Bertrand (alpine Skier)
André Bertrand (1 June 1931 – 3 June 2019) was a Canadian alpine skier who competed in the 1952 Winter Olympics and in the 1956 Winter Olympics. Bertrand attended Laval University where he was a member of the university ski team. He also coached the university men's alpine ski team from 1950 to 1970. He won the 1950 Canadian men's downhill championship beating out Egon Schöpf for first place. He won the downhill championship again in 1954 as well as winning the Canadian alpine combined championship that year. Bertrand was a member of the Canadian team at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, Norway, competing in the downhill, giant slalom, and slalom events. In the men's downhill, Betrand's time was 2:56.0 putting him in 41st place. He finished in 36th place with a time of 2:49.3 in the giant slalom. At the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, the six alpine skiing events were held from Friday, 27 January to Friday, 3 February. Toni Sailer of Austria won all three men's events to become the first alpine ski racer to win three gold medals in a single Olympics. The feat has been repeated once, by Jean-Claude Killy in 1968. The races were held at the adjacent Tofana, except for the men's giant slalom, which was held at Monte Faloria. The men's downhill was the final event. The men's ice hockey tournament at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, was the eighth Olympic Championship, also serving as the 23rd World Championships and the 34th European Championships. The tournament was held at the Olympic Ice Stadium and the Apollonio Stadium. East and West Germany could not come to an agreement over how to formulate a combined team, so they played a qualification game against each other, which the west won. The east hosted a tournament for non qualified teams, often referred to as World Championships ''Pool B'', between GDR, Norway and Belgium in Berlin. The Soviets won all their games to claim their first Olympic title, their second World title, and their third European title.
