Campello (MBTA Station)
Campello station is an MBTA Commuter Rail train station, station in Brockton, Massachusetts on the Middleborough/Lakeville Line. Campello station was built on a line that was once part of the Fall River Railroad (1846), original Fall River Railroad. The station opened on September 26, 1997, along with the rest of the Old Colony Lines (MBTA), Old Colony Lines. A former station at the site, serving shoe factories and other industry, was a stop until the end of Old Colony Division passenger service on June 30, 1959. By that time, passengers used a small wooden shelter rather than the abandoned stone station. Brockton Area Transit Authority, branded as Brockton Area Transit (BAT), is a public, non-profit organization in Massachusetts, charged with providing public transportation to the Brockton area, consisting of the city of Brockton and the adjoining towns of Abington, Avon, Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, Easton, Hanson, Rockland, Stoughton, West Bridgewater and Whitman. The Old Colony Lines are a pair of branches of the MBTA Commuter Rail system, connecting downtown Boston, Massachusetts with the South Shore and cranberry-farming country to the south and southeast. Middleborough/Lakeville Line
Middleborough/Lakeville station is an MBTA Commuter Rail station in Lakeville, Massachusetts, just south of the Middleborough border. It is the southern terminus of the Middleborough/Lakeville Line; it is also an intermediate stop for seasonal CapeFlyer service to Cape Cod. Middleborough/Lakeville has a single full-length high-level side platform serving the line's single track. An older station was located in downtown Middleborough, serving passenger service from 1846 to 1959 and Cape Cod and Hyannis Railroad service from 1984 to 1988. The current station opened along with the rest of the Old Colony Lines on September 29, 1997, and CapeFlyer service began in 2013. The station is planned to be closed to commuter rail service when the new Middleborough station opens in 2023 as part of South Coast Rail, though it will remain open for CapeFlyer and additional commuter parking. Fall River Railroad (1846)
The Fall River Railroad was incorporated in 1846 as a merger between the Fall River Branch Railroad, the Middleborough Railroad Corporation and the Randolph & Bridgewater Railroad Corporation. The railroad ran from Fall River through Middleborough, Massachusetts, Middleborough and Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Bridgewater to South Braintree, Massachusetts, South Braintree where it connected to the Old Colony Railroad line. The Fall River Railroad provided a direct rail link with access to the sea between the emerging textile town of Fall River and Boston. It operated until 1854 when it merged into the Old Colony Railroad to become the ''Old Colony and Fall River Railroad'' Company.
