Campbell County is a county in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,377, making it the fourth-least populous county in South Dakota. Its county seat is Mound City. The county was created in 1873 and organized in 1884. It was named for Norman B. Campbell, a Dakota Territory legislator in 1873 and son of General Charles T. Campbell. History Campbell County was formed in 1873 and organized in 1884. La Grace served as the first county seat; in 1888 the seat was transferred to Mound City. South Dakota Highway 271 (SD 271) is a state highway in the north-central part of the U.S. state of South Dakota. It connects portions of northeast Walworth County with the northeastern part of Campbell County. It consists of two disconnected segments. The southern segment extends from U.S. Route 12 (US 12) south of Java to a rural intersection at the Walworth–Campbell county line, northeast of Selby. The northern segment begins at an intersection with SD 10 west of Eureka and ends at an intersection with 102nd Street at the North Dakota state line. Here, the roadway continues as 26th Avenue SE. The northern segment was previously SD 105 prior to the mid-1970s. Route description Walworth County SD 271's southern segment begins at an intersection with US 12 (134th Street) south of Java. The county was named for Dighton Corson, a native of Maine, who came to the Black Hills in 1876, and in 1877 began practicing law at Deadwood. Emmons County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,301. Its county seat has been Linton since 1899. History The county was created by the Dakota Territory legislature on February 10, 1879, with territories partitioned from Burleigh and Campbell counties.
