Campaign For One
"Campaign for One" is a 1965 Australian television film. A remake of an episode of the BBC series ''Wednesday Play'', it aired in a 60-minute time-slot on ABC on 24 November 1965 in Melbourne, Sydney, and on 5 January 1966 in Brisbane. as part of ''Wednesday Theatre''. It was not unheard of during the 1960s for British anthology episodes to be remade for Australian television. Plot Set in 1967, an English astronaut, Phil Osborne, is in orbit for the Allied Commission of German, English and American specialists. After completing a spacewalk, he announces that he has no intentions to return to Earth, due to his wife leaving him, and would prefer to die in space. Michael Duffield
Michael Duffield (1915 – June 1986) was an English-born character actor who worked in Australia for many decades. He was nominated for the 1979 AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in ''The Last of the Knucklemen'', a role he was reprising from the original stage production. Duffield was also a prominent theatre actor, starting from 1950, with numerous career characters with the Melbourne Theatre Company, he won awards in 1962 for his performance on stage in ''The Caretaker'' and also was notable for playing. Winston Churchill in the production "The Soldiers". Whilst on television he appeared in numerous televised live plays. He died in June 1986, aged 71 and was survived by a wife and three children. Mark Albiston (born 19 March 1972) is a New Zealand film, television and advertising director. He graduated from University of Canterbury in Christchurch in 1992 with a degree in Fine Arts. Career In 2000, Albiston started the production company Sticky Pictures. The company produced award-winning content across a wide range of genres including documentary, short films, music videos, and commercials. These projects offered Albiston the opportunity to refine his directing talent from a variety of angles writing, editing and shooting on various projects. Edward Welsford Rowsell Howell (15 July 1902 – 20 August 1986), also known as pen name E.R. Howell, Edward Welsford Rowsell and Teddy/Ted Howell was a British Australian, character actor, radio and theatre producer, director and scriptwriter, theatre founder and drama teacher. He was notable for his career in Australia in all genres of the entertainment industry in a career spanning radio, stage, television and film. ''Ending It'' was a 1939 BBC TV one-off play, written by Val Gielgud, and starring John Robinson, Joan Marion, and Dino Galvani. It was 30 minutes in duration. It was broadcast live on 25 August 1939. 1957 Australian Adaptation The most unusual aspect of the production was that it was later remade for Australian television in 1957 at a time when Australian drama production was rare. It was directed by William Sterling. Broadcast live on Sydney station ABN-2 on 19 June 1957, a kinescope was made of the broadcast and shown on Melbourne television station ABV-2 on 19 July 1957. ''Box for One'' is a live television play which has been presented three times, twice on British broadcaster BBC and once on Australian broadcaster ABC. It is a drama about a "spiv", and the entire 30-minute drama takes place in a London telephone box. It was written by Peter Brook. Premise A London "spiv" enters an outdoor telephone booth. He dials a number and asks if there is a message for him. As then goes to leave and the phone rings - it is a girl who is trying to find her boyfriend and has the wrong number. The spiv is on the run and is looking for help. He tries various people but they reject him. 1949 version The 1949 version aired on BBC, and starring Marius Goring, Ivan Craig and Josée Richard.
