Camp New York
Camp New York is a United States Military installation in Kuwait. Located in the Udairi Range Complex, Camp New York is a staging post with a close proximity to Camp Buehring. It has been open and closed several times since 2004, and is currently used primarily to handle personnel influxes that nearby Camp Buehring would be unable to accommodate. History From the end of Operation Desert Storm (and the subsequent redeployment of troops) in 1991, and through the 11 September attacks, Camp New York was simply called "The Kabal," as it was the only camp that existed at that time. Camp Buehring
Camp Buehring (formerly Camp Udairi) is a staging post for US troops in the northwestern region of Kuwait. From its founding in January 2003 to present date, the base was used for military troops heading north into Iraq, as well as the primary location for the Middle Eastern Theater Reserve. The areas surrounding Camp Buehring, known as the Udairi Range Complex, is largely uninhabited, except for a few nomadic Bedouin tribes raising camels, goats, and sheep. Camp New York is nearby, in the same Udairi Range Complex as well. Camp Buehring is named after Lieutenant ColoneCharles H. Buehringwho was killed in Baghdad on October 26, 2003. Operation Desert Spring was part of an ongoing operation in Kuwait by the United States that was established on December 31, 1998, following Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield. A kabal is the name given to a patch of desert, with berms bulldozed to form the perimeter earthworks. Kabals are located less than from the Iraqi border. The Kuwaiti government has cordoned off the northern part of its country, an area of more than out of , where American military and coalition forces are based and are conducting training.
