Camp Danbee
Camp Danbee is an all girls youth summer camp located on the south side of Lake Ashmere in Peru, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1950 and has operated continuously annually since then. Camp Danbee is located in Western Massachusetts and is about three hour from both New York City and Boston. Community service Camp Danbee has hosted several different special camp events and weeks for children who have been impacted by the Sandy Hook shooting, and children whose parents were killed during the 9/11 attacks. Peru, Massachusetts
Peru is a town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 814 at the 2020 census. History Originally known as Northern Berkshire Township Number 2 and including all of Hinsdale and part of Middlefield, the town was first settled in 1767 and was officially incorporated as Partridgefield in 1771. Originally named for Oliver Partridge, one of the three purchasers of the town (along with Governor Francis Bernard), the name was officially changed to Peru in 1806, on the suggestion of the Rev. Lake Ashmere
Lake Ashmere, or Ashmere Lake, is a small lake in rural Berkshire County of Massachusetts, located in Peru and Hinsdale, Massachusetts. Usage Lake Ashmere is used mostly for recreational purposes. It is owned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. There are three summer camps located on the lake: Camp Danbee, a private girls camp, on the south side and Camp Taconic, a private co-ed camp on the north side of the lake. A third summer camp, Camp Ashmere, a co-ed church operated camp located on the south side of the lake, closed after the Summer 2018 season, and its land was put up for sale, and sold to the new Berkshire Lake Camp. The Berkshire Lake Camp was supposed to open for the summer of 2020, however it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic until the summer of 2021.
