Camouflage (band)
Camouflage is a German synth-pop trio consisting of lead singer Marcus Meyn (b. May 2, 1966), Heiko Maile and Oliver Kreyssig. Their only Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100 hit was "The Great Commandment (song), The Great Commandment", which reached No. 59 in early 1989, and spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Dance Club Songs chart. They also had two minor dance hits in 1989. History In 1983, Heiko Maile, Marcus Meyn, Oliver Kreyssig, and Martin Kähling, four friends from Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany, formed the band Licensed Technology. It was short lived, as Martin Kähling left in 1984. Soon after, the remaining three members renamed themselves "Camouflage", inspired by a Yellow Magic Orchestra song of the same name. Wave-Gotik-Treffen
The Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT; ) is an annual world festival for "dark" music and "dark culture" in Leipzig, Germany. 150+ bands and artists from various backgrounds (gothic rock, gothic metal, EBM, industrial, noise, darkwave, neo-folk, neo-classical, medieval, experimental, deathrock and punk music being examples) play at several venues throughout the city over four days on Whitsuntide. The festival also features multiple all-night dance club parties, several fairs with medieval, gothic, and related merchandise, a variety of cultural exhibitions and performances, large themed picnics, and a number of unofficial fringe events. With 18,000 to 20,000 regular attendants, the WGT is one of the largest events of the gothic, cybergoth, steampunk, and rivethead subcultures worldwide. Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO for short) is a Japanese electronic music band formed in Tokyo in 1978 by Haruomi Hosono (bass, keyboards, vocals), Yukihiro Takahashi (drums, lead vocals) and Ryuichi Sakamoto (keyboards, vocals). The group is considered influential and innovative in the field of popular electronic music. Bodega Bohemia
''Bodega Bohemia'' is the fourth studio album by German synthpop band Camouflage, released on April 26, 1993 by Metronome Musik. The band moved to Hamburg and began working on the album in mid-1992 following the release of the side-project EP '' Areu Areu''. The aim of the album was to return to an electronic presentation with as much influence from electronics as possible. The resulting album was not promoted well by Metronome, who only released the album and its three singles in Germany. ''Bodega Bohemia'' was the band's last album for the label. Colin Thurston (13 July 1947 – 15 January 2007) was an English recording engineer and record producer. ''Meanwhile'' is the third studio album by German synthpop group Camouflage, released in 1991 by Metronome in Europe and Atlantic Records in North America. Unlike Camouflage's earlier albums, and most of their later work, ''Meanwhile'' features more 'organic' instruments like real drums and guest musicians playing conventional instruments. However, this change brought with it controversy, and Marcus later said that if they had been given advice against the change in style, things may have gone differently. ''Methods of Silence'' is the second album by the German band Camouflage, released by Atlantic Records in June 1989. The single "Love is a Shield" reached position 9 of the German single charts making it Camouflage's most successful song and at position 20 in the American Billboard Modern Rock Tracks. Background Camouflage set up a new studio, "Boys Factory 2", near their home town before entering the Synsound Studio in Brussels in early 1989. The producer, Dan Lacksman (known for his work with Telex), used both modern and old technology to create the new album. The band was given more creative freedom due to their previous success. Chart performance The album reached #13 in the German Album Charts. The first single, "Love Is a Shield" was also a hit, reaching #9 in the Singles Chart, and has become one of the band's best-known songs. Telex (band)
Telex was a Belgian synthpop group formed in 1978 by Marc Moulin, Dan Lacksman and Michel Moers, with the intention of "making something really European, different from rock, without guitar — and the idea was electronic music". History In 1979, mixing the aesthetics of disco, punk and experimental electronic music, they released a stripped-down synthesized cover version of "Twist à St. Tropez" by Les Chats Sauvages. They followed up with an ultra-slow cover of "Rock Around the Clock", a relaxed and dispassionate version of Plastic Bertrand's punk song " Ça Plane Pour Moi", and a mechanical cover of " Dance to the Music", originally by Sly Stone.
