Early life Camila Alves was born in Itambacuri, Minas Gerais, Brazil, about 250 miles east of the provincial capital of Belo Horizonte and raised there until the age of 15. Her mother is an artist and designer, and her father, a ranch owner. At 15, Alves traveled to Los Angeles to visit her aunt and decided to stay. The Heart Truth is a campaign meant to raise awareness of the risk of cardiovascular disease, heart disease in women. The campaign is sponsored in the United States by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, an organization of the United States Department of Health and Human Services; a similar campaign is promoted in Canada by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
