Cameron Smyth
Cameron Smyth (born August 19, 1971) is a Republican politician who served in the California State Assembly. He succeeded Keith Richman who was term-limited. Prior to being elected to the state legislature, Smyth served on the Santa Clarita City Council, where he was first elected in 2000 and re-elected in 2004. During his time on the council, Smyth twice served as mayor, first in 2003 and again in 2005. Background Born in Pasadena and raised in Santa Clarita, Smyth attended local public schools and earned his B.A. in Rhetoric and Communications from the University of California, Davis, where he was also a two-sport athlete. The California Republican Party (CAGOP) is the affiliate of the United States Republican Party in the U.S. state of California. The party is based in Sacramento and is led by chair Jessica Millan Patterson. Nao Takasugi (April 5, 1922 – November 19, 2009) was an American politician from California, a member of the Republican Party, and a survivor of the Japanese American internment camps. Early life Born and raised in Oxnard, California, Takasugi was the valedictorian of his Oxnard High School class and worked in the family grocery store, the Asahi Market, before he enrolled at UCLA. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Executive Order 9066, he was pulled out of the university at the age of 19 and removed with other Japanese Americans to the Tulare Assembly Center, where he shared a converted horse stall with his family. While in Tulare, Takasugi worked as a teacher's aide at the camp high school, teaching business and Spanish. He was later transferred to the War Relocation Authority camp at Gila River, Arizona. Keith Stuart Richman (November 21, 1953 – July 30, 2010) was a California Republican politician. From 2000 to 2006, he served in the California State Assembly representing the 38th Assembly District based in Northwest Los Angeles County. Born in Syracuse, New York, Richman graduated from Birmingham High School in 1971 and earned his Bachelor of Science in 1975 from the University of California, Davis, where he played baseball and was named an All-Conference pitcher. As part of the 1972 UC Davis baseball team, he was named to the UC Davis Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1998, he was named the Collegiate Alumnus of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
