Cameron City Pool-PWA Project 1196 is a historic swimming pool located at Cameron, Marshall County, West Virginia. It was built in 1939, with a grant from the Public Works Administration. It consists of a semi-circular pool with underwater lifeguard station, and a wooden bath house. It incorporates a beach area and is recognized as a potential fire fighting emergency water reserve. Marshall County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. At the 2020 census, the population was 30,591. Its county seat is Moundsville. With its southern border at what would be a continuation of the Mason-Dixon line to the Ohio River, it forms the base of the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia. Marshall County is part of the Wheeling, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Marshall County is home to the largest conical burial mound in North America, at Moundsville. The Public Works Administration (PWA), part of the New Deal of 1933, was a large-scale public works construction agency in the United States headed by Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes. It was created by the National Industrial Recovery Act in June 1933 in response to the Great Depression. It built large-scale public works such as dams, bridges, hospitals, and schools. Its goals were to spend $3.3 billion (about $10 per person in the U.S.) in the first year, and $6 billion (about $18 dollars per person in the U.S.) in all, to supply employment, stabilize buying power, and help revive the economy.
