Camerata Nordica
Camerata Nordica is a Swedish chamber orchestra. Affiliated with the regional Kalmar Läns Musikstiftelse, the ensemble is administratively based in Oskarshamn, and gives concerts in various cities and venues in Sweden. Founded in 1974 in Kalmar, the orchestra has formerly been known as the Oskarshamn Ensemble, Camerata Roman (after Johan Helmich Roman), and Camerata Sweden. Since 2018, Camerata Nordica's orchestra director and artistic director has been Zéphyrin Rey-Bellet. The orchestra is unusual in that it plays in camerata form, without a conductor and standing in a tight formation, which provides energy and interaction. The orchestra consists of permanent employees and freelance musicians. The musicians are handpicked from ensembles and orchestras all over the world, often winners of international competitions. Josef Suk (violinist)
Josef Suk (8 August 1929 – 7 July 2011) was a Czech violinist, violist, chamber musician and conductor. In his home country he carried the title of National Artist. Youth and studies Josef Suk was born in Prague, the grandson of the composer and violinist Josef Suk, and great-grandson of the composer Antonín Dvořák. After finishing high school in 1945 he entered the Prague Conservatory (1945-1951), where his teachers were Jaroslav Kocián, Norbert Kubát and Karel Šnebergr. The most important of all his teachers was Jaroslav Kocián, who started teaching him privately when Suk was 7 years old. Led by him, Suk mastered the violin art drawing from the spectacular interpretative art of his teacher, who was specific with his noble technique of tone formation. Edward Benjamin Britten, Baron Britten (22 November 1913 – 4 December 1976, aged 63) was an English composer, conductor, and pianist. BIS Records
BIS Records is a record label founded in 1973 by Robert von Bahr. It is located in Åkersberga, Sweden. BIS focuses on classical music, both contemporary and early, especially works that are not already well represented by existing recordings. The company has recorded the complete works of Sibelius. Other composers of the Nordic countries and Estonia are also well represented in their catalogue, including Kalevi Aho, Christian Lindberg, Jón Leifs, Geirr Tveitt, Eduard Tubin, Allan Pettersson and James MacMillan. Per Tengstrand
Per Tengstrand (born 1968, Växjö, Sweden) is a Swedish pianist. Biography Tengstrand started to play the piano at age 6, being taught by his mother. He entered the Malmö Academy of Music at age 16, in the class of Hans Pålsson. In 1985, he was accepted at the Conservatoire de Paris in the class of Dominique Merlet. Three years later, he obtained a Premier Prix, Premier nommé, and Prix Special du Jury at the Paris Conservatory. He continued private studies with Dominique Weber and Romuald Sztern to prepare for international piano competitions. In 1995 he attained the Long-Thibaud Competition's 4th prize. He subsequently was awarded the 1996 Geneva Competition's 2nd prize (1st prize void) and won the 1997 Cleveland International Piano Competition. Anders Erik Birger Eliasson (3 April 1947 – 20 May 2013) was a Sweden, Swedish composer. Life Eliasson was born in Borlänge. His "earliest musical experiences originated from within myself: they were my own singing, and familiar tunes I heard on the radio. No classical music." Marching his toy soldiers up and down, he used to imagine sounds, learning only later to describe them as an orchestra. Aged 9, he began the trumpet, started up a small jazz orchestra (two clarinets, trombone, rhythm section, guitar, trumpet), and aged 10 he was writing arrangements. Ulf Wallin is a Swedish classical violinist and professor at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. Life Born in Växjö, Wallin studied at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm and at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. He began his career as a soloist and chamber music player. Terje Tønnesen
Terje Tønnesen (born 27 February 1955 in Oslo, Norway) is a Norwegian classical violinist. His first marriage, from 1979 to 1986, was to the pianist Reidun Askeland (born 1957). In 1986 he married the actress Hilde Grythe (born 18 July 1955), daughter of NRK program host Odd Grythe (1918–94) and film director Kirsten Sørlie (1926–2013). Career Tønnesen made a sensational debut at age 17 in 1972, "A dazzling debut with hardly any parallel", as it was described in the Oslo newspaper. Pekka Kuusisto (born 7 October 1976 in Espoo) is a Finnish musician. Biography Kuusisto comes from a musical lineage.
