Camerata Mediterranea
Camerata Mediterranea is a French and American nonprofit organization and an international, intercultural institute of musical exchanges. Camerata Mediterranea devotes itself to research, dialogue, and pedagogy involving the diverse musical civilizations of the Mediterranean basin, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim. It aims to revive the value of forgotten interactions and intends to reestablish a dialogue, at once artistic, intellectual and human, among civilizations. Purpose Camerata Mediterranea encourages research and communication among specialists and artists knowledgeable in the traditions of their respective civilizations. In Europe, the old sources are written; in the East, the main source of transmission is oral. These different ways of conceiving and apprehending musical art create problems which the institute proposes to help overcome. Cantigas De Santa Maria
The ''Cantigas de Santa Maria'' (, ; "Canticles of Holy Mary") are 420 poems with musical notation, written in the medieval Galician-Portuguese language during the reign of Alfonso X of Castile ''El Sabio'' (1221–1284). Traditionally, they are all attributed to Alfonso, though scholars have since established that the musicians and poets of his court were responsible for most of them, with Alfonso being credited with a few as well. It is one of the largest collections of monophonic (solo) songs from the Middle Ages and is characterized by the mention of the Virgin Mary in every song, while every tenth song is a hymn. The ''Cantigas'' have survived in four manuscript codices: two at El Escorial, one at Madrid's National Library, and one in Florence, Italy. Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert ( or ; oc, Sant Guilhèm dau Desèrt) is a commune in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region in southern France. Mehmet Ali Sanlıkol (born September 24, 1974) is a Grammy nominated Turkish-American composer and CMES Harvard University fellow who is a jazz pianist and singer that also performs a number of Near and Middle Eastern instruments as well as the keyboardless synthesizer Continuum Fingerboard and the ''SANLIKOL Renaissance 17'', a digital microtonal keyboard designed and conceived by himself. Abdelkrim Rais (Fez 1912 – August 30, 1996) (in Arabic: عبد الكريم الرايس) was a Moroccan writer and musician of traditional Andalusian Music. Known as the ''captain of al-Ala (Andalusian music)'', he was also a Rebab (spiked fiddle) virtuoso. Life Abdelkrim Rais was born in 1912 in the old town of Fez in Morocco. He was encouraged by his family to engage in Andalusian Music and started learning at the musical conservatory of his hometown, while working in his father's printing press, one of the first in Morocco. In 1946, and after the death of his master Mohammed Al Brihi, he took over the leadership of the Arabo-Andalus Orchestra of Fez. Alfonso El Sabio
Alfonso X (also known as the Wise, es, el Sabio; 23 November 1221 – 4 April 1284) was King of Castile, León and Galicia from 30 May 1252 until his death in 1284. During the election of 1257, a dissident faction chose him to be king of Germany on 1 April. He renounced his claim to Germany in 1275, and in creating an alliance with the Kingdom of England in 1254, his claim on the Duchy of Gascony as well. Alfonso X fostered the development of a cosmopolitan court that encouraged learning. Jews, Muslims, and Christians were encouraged to have prominent roles in his court.
