Camel (band)
Camel are an English progressive rock band formed in Guildford, Guildford, Surrey, in 1971. Led by guitarist Andrew Latimer, they have released fourteen studio albums and fourteen singles, plus numerous live albums and DVDs. Without achieving mass popularity, the band gained a cult following in the 1970s with albums such as ''Mirage (Camel album), Mirage'' (1974) and ''The Snow Goose (album), The Snow Goose'' (1975). They moved into a jazzier, more commercial direction in the early 1980s, but then went on an extended hiatus. Since 1991 the band has been independent, releasing albums on their own label. Despite no new studio releases since 2002, the band performed on tour as recently as 2018. Their music has influenced artists including Marillion, Opeth and Steven Wilson. Guildford
Guildford () is a town in west Surrey, England, around south-west of central London. As of the 2011 census, the town has a population of about 77,000 and is the seat of the wider Borough of Guildford, which had around inhabitants in . Chris Rainbow
Christopher James Harley, known by the stage name Chris Rainbow (18 November 1946 – 22 February 2015), was a Scottish pop rock singer and musician whose songs "Give Me What I Cry For" and "Solid State Brain" were often played by British radio DJs Kenny Everett and Tony Blackburn in the 1970s. In addition to his solo career he was a vocalist and vocal arranger who sang with many rock, pop and progressive bands as well as solo artists. Steven Wilson
Steven John Wilson (born 3 November 1967) is an English musician. He is the founder, guitarist, lead vocalist, and songwriter of the rock band Porcupine Tree, as well as being a member of several other bands, including Blackfield, Storm Corrosion and No-Man. He is also a solo artist, having released eight solo albums since his solo debut Insurgentes (album), ''Insurgentes'' in 2008. Opeth
Opeth is a Swedish progressive metal band from Stockholm, formed in 1990. The band incorporates folk music, folk, blues, classical music, classical, and jazz elements into its usually lengthy compositions, as well as strong influences from death metal, especially in their early works. Songs may include acoustic guitar passages, Mellotrons, death growls, and strong dynamics (music), dynamic shifts. Marillion
Marillion are a British neo-prog band, formed in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in 1979. They emerged from the post-punk music scene in Britain and existed as a bridge between the styles of punk rock and classic progressive rock, becoming the most commercially successful neo-prog band of the 1980s. The Snow Goose (album)
''The Snow Goose'' is the third studio album by the band Camel, released in the U.K. on 25 April 1975. The critical success of "The White Rider" suite (based on J. R. R. Tolkien's ''The Lord of the Rings'' and appearing on the band's previous 1974 album, ''Mirage'') prompted the group to write more novel-inspired conceptual suites. Recording The band considered several novels on which to base their next album. For a time they settled on '' Siddhartha'', by Hermann Hesse, and some songs were written before the idea was abandoned in favour of Paul Gallico's novella '' The Snow Goose''. The album's name, originally ''The Snow Goose'', was altered to ''Music Inspired by The Snow Goose'' to accommodate legal protests by Paul Gallico. Mirage (Camel Album)
''Mirage'' is the second studio album by the English progressive rock band Camel, released on 1 March 1974. It features songs such as "The White Rider", "Lady Fantasy", and "Supertwister" which includes a showcase for Andrew Latimer's flute. There are five tracks on ''Mirage'', two over 9 minutes. Those two are multi-part songs: "Lady Fantasy" and "Nimrodel/The Procession/The White Rider", the latter being about ''The Lord of the Rings''. The album was released on Gama Records/Deram Records. Mick Rock shot the inner sleeve photo. Creation Gama Records was looking for an outlet for their projects and quickly signed a long-term deal with Decca/London branch label, Deram Records. Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog) is a broad genre of rock music that primarily developed in the United Kingdom through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early-to-mid-1970s. Ton Scherpenzeel
Ton Scherpenzeel (born 6 August 1952) is a Dutch keyboardist, composer, lyricist, and founding member of Dutch progressive rock band Kayak. Subsequent to Kayak, Scherpenzeel joined British progressive rock band Camel (band), Camel. He also played for several years with Dutch band Earth and Fire and released several solo albums. After his participation in rock bands, he was associated with Dutch vocal project Opus and was the accompanying keyboardist to Dutch comedian Youp van 't Hek. Kayak Scherpenzeel is a founding member of Kayak, together with Pim Koopman and Max Werner whom he met while studying at the Hilversum Muziek Lyceum (Hilversum College of Music). The band originated from another college-band, High Tide Formation, with Scherpenzeel on bass guitar. He is the only Kayak member who has played on every Kayak album. Guy LeBlanc (keyboardist)
Guy LeBlanc (October 16, 1960 – April 27, 2015) was a Canadian keyboardist and composer. He led his own progressive-rock band - Nathan Mahl, and was a member of the British progressive band Camel (band)#2000s, Camel from 2000 to 2015. He produced and released his own solo, as well as Nathan Mahl's discs, and had appeared as guest keyboardist on several other releases. Biography Born in 1960 in Moncton, New Brunswick, he began formal musical training at age four, and ended his classical piano training at age 11, in order to concentrate on composition and modern electric music. He started playing keyboards in Rock bands at 15 and co-founded Nathan Mahl at age 20 with Mark Spenard, Don Prince and Dan Lacasse. In 1991, on a dare, he released a series of recorded improvisations with two drummers, and dubbed the project Mahl Dynasty.
