Cambo, Northumberland
Cambo is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Wallington Demesne, in Northumberland, England. It is about to the west of the county town of Morpeth at the junction of the B6342 and B6343 roads. The village was gifted along with the Wallington Estate to the National Trust by Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan in 1942, the first donation of its kind. It remains a National Trust village. In 1951 the parish had a population of 60. There is a village school, Cambo First School, which had 46 pupils in September 2020 aged 4-9 years. There is a church, a village hall and a community orchard in the village. Governance Cambo was formerly a township and chapelry in Hartburn parish, from 1866 Cambo was a civil parish in its own right until it was abolished on 1 April 1955 and merged with Wallington Demesne. Cambo Estate lies close to the village of Kingsbarns in north-east Fife, Scotland. It is within the East Neuk, south-east of St Andrews. At the heart of the estate lies the 19th-century Cambo House, the home of Sir Peter Erskine, Bt and Lady Catherine Erskine. The gardens of Cambo are open to the public, and include the walled garden and seasonal snowdrop gardens. Cambo-les-Bains (; eu, Kanbo) is a town in the traditional Basque province of Labourd, now in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in south-western France. It lies on the south-western bank of the river Nive. Cambo-les-Bains station has rail connections to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and Bayonne. Population People In 1900, Edmond Rostand, writer of the play ''Cyrano de Bergerac'', came to Cambo-les-Bains because of his pulmonary disease. He was taken by the area and in time bought some land and had a house built. It was completed in 1906. Cambo oil field is a prospective oil and gas field in the North Sea, north west of the Shetland Islands, Scotland. The field is in a deep section of the water, some below the sea level. Development of the field has led to criticism from some green campaign groups stating it goes against the United Kingdom's reduction in carbon emissions. The project has the potential to deliver millions of barrels of oil and over of gas.
