Cambaroides
''Cambaroides'' is a genus of freshwater crayfish from eastern Asia (eastern Russia, northeastern China, Korean Peninsula and Japan). Together with ''Astacus'', they are the only crayfish native to Asia. Cambaroides Japonicus
''Cambaroides japonicus'', also known as , is a species of crayfish endemic to Japan. They are small in size (6 cm) and grayish in color. Its front claws are much weaker than the American crayfish, which is an invasive species in Japan. The Japanese crayfish needs low temperature and high water purity, so they live in upper streams of rivers or lakes in highland regions. The distribution of Japanese crayfish comprises Hokkaidō and northern Tōhoku (the northern area of Honshū). The Environmental Agency (now Ministry of Environment) of Japan added it as a vulnerable species (IUCN category) to the Red Data List in 2000. It is thought that the causes of its decrease are corruption of water quality and the spread of the American crayfish '' Pacifastacus leniusculus'', which was imported in the 20th century and has steadily proliferated in northern Japan. Cambaridae
The Cambaridae are the largest of the four families of freshwater crayfish, with over 400 Species. Most of the species in the family are native the United States east of the Great Divide and Mexico, but fewer range north to Canada, and south to Guatemala and Honduras. Three live on the island of Cuba. The species in the genus ''Cambaroides'' are the only found outside North America, as they are restricted to eastern Asia. A few species, including the invasive ''Procambarus clarkii'' and '' Faxonius rusticus'', have been introduced to regions far outside their native range (both in North America and other continents). Walter Faxon
Walter Faxon (February 4, 1848 – August 10, 1920) was an American ornithologist and carcinologist. He was born at Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, where he grew up. He received three degrees from Harvard University. One of his greater ornithological achievements was demonstration that Brewster's warbler is a hybrid. Crayfish
Crayfish are freshwater crustaceans belonging to the clade Astacidea, which also contains lobsters. In some locations, they are also known as crawfish, craydids, crawdaddies, crawdads, freshwater lobsters, mountain lobsters, rock lobsters, mudbugs, baybugs or yabbies.
