Calm Down Juanita
Calm Down Juanita is a Seattle, Washington studio band writing partnership between vocalist Tyler Willman and drummer Kevin Guess, catalyzed and engineered by Steve Wilmans, that has featured several other notable players. Their sound is progressive psychedelic alternative rock. They recorded and released two albums in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with different bass players and multiple guests on each album. The band was described as "acid-y, slinky and soulful," and as having a style somewhere between The Flaming Lips and later-period Marvin Gaye. History Ty Willman and Kevin Guess co-wrote most of the music for the two studio albums that have emerged from the partnership: an eponymous 7-song debut EP CD in 1998, and a 14-song full-length CD in 2002, entitled ''Undertown'', both of which featured several other notable musicians. ''Undertown'' is the second album by psychedelic rock group Calm Down Juanita, released in 2002. This album featured recording engineer Steve Feasley on bass guitar and once more, special appearances by several other players. ''Undertown'' saw Tyler Willman singing and writing most lyrics, with the exception of two songs: ''Heavy'', with lyrics and vocals by kevtone (Kevin Guess), and ''Monkeyfist'', with lyrics, vocals, and sitar by Seamalt Jones. Willman played guitars, rhodes, and harmonica throughout the album, synthesizer on ''Slowdance'' and ''Youfo'', and bass on both ''Thinkitsenough'' and the outro solo for ''Castle''. The Echo Label was a British record label started by Chrysalis Group in 1994, and linked with Pony Canyon in Japan. The Chrysalis Group were the original owners of Chrysalis Records, which they sold to EMI. In 2005, The Echo Label recorded a loss of over £2.0 million. The decision was taken to restructure the business at the beginning of the 2006 financial year, into an "incubator" for developing writer-artists with the intention of "upstreaming" them to a major label. The signings which resulted from this included Bat for Lashes, Steven Lindsay, Rosalie Deighton, Jacob Golden and Sarabeth Tucek. Skerik
Skerik is an American saxophonist from Seattle, Washington. Performing on the tenor and baritone saxophone, often with electronics and loops, he is a pioneer in a playing style that has been called saxophonics. He is a founding member of Critters Buggin, Garage a Trois, Ponga, Tuatara, and Skerik's Syncopated Taint Septet. He is also an original member of both Les Claypool's Fancy Band and Frog Brigade. Skerik also worked with grunge band Mad Season. History Skerik began playing saxophone in the fifth grade. His father's love of jazz was an early inspiration. He played saxophone, keyboards and percussion in a rock band called Uncle Jam. John Nommensen Duchac (born February 25, 1953), known professionally as John Doe, is an American singer, songwriter, actor, poet, guitarist and bass player. Doe co-founded LA punk band X, of which he is still an active member. His musical performances and compositions span rock, punk, country and folk music genres. As an actor, he has dozens of television appearances and several movies to his credit, including the role of Jeff Parker in the television series '' Roswell''. ''Calm Down Juanita'' is the eponymous first album by psychedelic rock group Calm Down Juanita, released in 1998 through Echo Records. The album was recorded entirely at the Fremont House in Seattle, Washington on 4-track cassette. Marvin Gaye
Marvin Pentz Gay Jr., who also spelled his surname as Gaye (April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984), was an American singer and songwriter. He helped to shape the sound of Motown in the 1960s, first as an in-house session player and later as a solo artist with a string of successes, earning him the nicknames "Prince of Motown" and "Prince of Soul".
