Callulina Hanseni
''Callulina'' (commonly known as the warty frogs) is a small genus of frogs in the family Brevicipitidae with nine members in Tanzania and Kenya. Originally ''Callulina'' was thought to be monotypic and widely distributed through Eastern Arc Mountains in Tanzania and in southern Kenya. However, within the last decade eight new species has been identified, the majority of which are considered critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Callulina Dawida
''Callulina dawida'', also known as Taita warty frog, is a species of frogs in the family Brevicipitidae. It is endemic to Kenya, where it is only found in severely fragmented montane forests in Taita Hills in the south-eastern part of the country. Originally ''Callulina'' was thought to be monotypic and widely distributed through Eastern Arc Mountains in Tanzania and in southern Kenya. However, within the last decade eight new species have been identified, many which are considered critically endangered by IUCN. ''C. dawida'' was described in 2009 by a team led by Simon Loader; it received its specific name after Dawida language, which is spoken in Taita Hills. Description ''Callulina dawida'' is a medium-sized frog in which females can reach 55 mm and males 35 mm. The toes of the hind feet are arranged in two opposable groups, with the fourth and fifth together, pointing backward when walking on the forest floor. The skin is warty and dorsal adult colour is variabl ...

Amphibians Of Sub-Saharan Africa
Amphibians are tetrapod, four-limbed and ectothermic vertebrates of the Class (biology), class Amphibia. All living amphibians belong to the group Lissamphibia. They inhabit a wide variety of habitats, with most species living within terrestrial animal, terrestrial, fossorial, arboreal or freshwater aquatic ecosystems. Thus amphibians typically start out as larvae living in water, but some species have developed behavioural adaptations to bypass this. The young generally undergo metamorphosis from larva with gills to an adult air-breathing form with lungs. Amphibians use their skin as a secondary respiratory surface and some small terrestrial salamanders and frogs lack lungs and rely entirely on their skin. They are superficially similar to reptiles like lizards but, along with mammals and birds, reptiles are amniotes and do not require water bodies in which to breed. With their complex reproductive needs and permeable skins, amphibians are often ecological indicators; in re ...

''Callulina stanleyi'' is a species of frogs in the family Brevicipitidae. It was discovered in 2010 during a survey of rainforests in the northern part of the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania. It was named in honour of the American zoologist, William T. Stanley, of the Field Museum, Chicago, who has done much research into the amphibians of Tanzania. It is present at three locations along the eastern border of Chome Forest Reserve at altitudes between . It is rated as " critically endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Description Frogs in the genus ''Callulina'' are endemic to the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania. They are characterised by short blunt snouts and plump bodies covered with glandular warts. ''Callulina stanleyi'' has a snout-to-vent length of . The dorsal surface is mainly brown with symmetrical darker brown or black streaks. The body is covered with granulations, and the larger glandular masses are pale tan, as are the underparts. ...

''Callulina laphami'' is a species of frogs in the family Brevicipitidae. It was discovered in 2010 during a survey of rainforests in the northern part of the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania. It is present at a single location in the Kindoroko and Minja Forest Reserves in the Pare Mountains. The forest area in which this frog lives is a remnant patch of a larger forest with trees in the surrounding area being felled for agricultural development, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature has rated the frog's conservation status as " critically endangered". Description ''Callulina laphami'' is a robust species of brevicipitid frog with a plump body and distinctive ridges of glands on its arms and legs. The Mazumbai warty frog (''Callulina kisiwamsitu'') is a species of frogs in the family Brevicipitidae. It is endemic to forests of the West Usambara Mountains of Tanzania where it is threatened by habitat loss. It is part of a species complex and was recognised as a separate species in 2004, having previously been included in '' Callulina kreffti''. Description ''Callulina kisiwamsitu'' is a small species with an adult length of . The females are larger than the males. The skin is densely warted and the colour is a mottling of various shades of brown and black. Distribution and habitat ''Callulina kisiwamsitu'' is endemic to the West Usambara Mountains in Tanzania. Much of this area has been deforested and this species is found in the remains of the forested area around Lushoto including the Mazumbai Forest Reserve, Ambangula Forest Reserve and Shume-Mugambo Forest Reserve. Amphibian Species Of The World
''Amphibian Species of the World 6.1: An Online Reference'' (ASW) is a herpetology database. It lists the names of frogs, salamanders and other amphibians, which scientists first described each species and what year, and the animal's known range. The American Museum of Natural History hosts ''Amphibian Species of the World''. As of 2019, it contained more than 8000 species. History The Association of Systematics Collections (ASC) started this project in 1978 because the Convention on Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES) needed a database for animals. (The ASC later changed its name to Natural Science Collections Alliance.) The ASC's Stephen R. Edwards wrote ''Mammal Species of the World'' first and started ''Amphibian Species of the World'' second. Edwards decided to write about living amphibians because Richard G. Zweifel had just composed a large list of amphibian names and because experts from the University of Kansas were available to assist him. Darrel ...

Fritz Nieden
Fritz Nieden (1883 – 1942) was a German zoologist who specialized in African herpetology. He worked as a zoologist at the ''Museum für Naturkunde'' in Berlin. His name is associated with Nieden's dwarf skink, '' Panaspis megalurus''. In 1911 he was the first to describe '' Callulina kreffti'', a species of frog, which until 2004 was the only known species of the genus ''Callulina''. The Sagala caecilian, ''Boulengerula niedeni'', is named after him. Selected writings *Die Amphibienfauna von Kamerun' (1908), Mitteilungen aus dem Zoologischen Museum in Berlin 3: 491–518 ("''Amphibian fauna of Cameroon''") *''Die Reptilien (außer den Schlangen) und Amphibien'', 1910 - Reptiles (other than snakes) and amphibians. *''Gymnophoina (Amphibia apoda)'', 1913 - Gymnophiona Caecilians (; ) are a group of limbless, vermiform or serpentine amphibians.
