Callistemon Pyramidalis
''Melaleuca pyramidalis'' is a plant in the myrtle Family (biology), family, Myrtaceae and is Endemism, endemic to small areas of Queensland in Australia. (Some Australian state herbaria use the name ''Callistemon pyramidalis''.) It is closely related to ''Melaleuca citrina'' (''Callistemon citrinus'') but is distinguished from it mainly by leaf and stamen differences. ''Melaleuca pyramidalis'' is only known from the summits of three mountains in Queensland. Description ''Melaleuca pyramidalis'' is a shrub growing to tall with compact, dark grey, papery bark. Its leaves are arranged alternately and are long, wide, flat, elliptical in shape with a short stalk. The veins are pinnation, pinnate and there are only a few scattered, indistinct oil glands. The flowers are red to pink, arranged in spikes up to in diameter with 20 to 50 individual flowers. The petals are long and fall off as the flower ages and there are 35 to 42 stamens in each flower. Walshs Pyramid
Walshs Pyramid is an independent peak with a distinct pyramidal appearance, high, located within Wooroonooran National Park about south of Cairns, Queensland, Cairns, Queensland, Australia. An annual footrace to its summit is held on the third Saturday in August. The "Pyramid race" starts at the nearby town of Gordonvale and attracts hundreds of competitors aiming to win the $1000 prize money. For experienced hikers, the ascent and descent can take 4 to 6 hours. The vegetation on the mountain is fairly dense however, many rocks are open and exposed which make the surface very slippery after rain. References
