Callewaert Vanlangendonck Gallery
Callewaert Vanlangendonck Gallery is a Belgian art gallery for abstract art in Antwerp. It was founded in 2012 by Yoeri Vanlangendonck and Brecht Callewaert in the Wolstraat in Antwerp. In 2013 a second space opened in the same street. In 2017, the gallery expanded with a 17th-century building in the Antwerp university area, renovated by architects Rolies + Dubois and opened by Minister of Culture Sven Gatz and university Rector . Artists such as Guy Vandenbranden, Paul Van Hoeydonck, Pol Bury, Michel Seuphor, Jan Dries, Jan Cox, Mark Verstockt and exhibited at the gallery. In addition to exhibiting the work of abstract artists from the fifties and sixties, the gallery also represents the estate of Guy Vandenbranden and manages its artists' archive. Sven Gatz
Sven Gatz (born 6 May 1967 in Sint-Agatha-Berchem) is a Flemish Open Vld politician and the current Brussels Minister of Finance, Budget, Civil Service and Multilingualism in the government of the Brussels-Capital Region. From 1999 to 2011 he was member of the Flemish Parliament and from 2007 to 2011 he was leader of the Open Vld group there. He started as member of the Volksunie and switched to Open Vld when Volksunie was split. From 2000 to 2012 he was also member of the municipal council of Jette. Guy Vandenbranden
Guy Vandenbranden (Brussels, July 14, 1926) – (Antwerp, June 3, 2014) was a Belgian artist. He has worked as a painter, draftsman, collage artist, sculptor and graphic artist. Style and work From 1951 onwards, Guy Vandenbranden said goodbye to figuration and started to work lyrically abstract. In 1952, Vandenbranden ended up in the Brussels art scene and became friends with Pol Bury, Jo Delahaut, Kurt Lewy, Jean Rets and Jean Milo. Thanks to these contacts, Guy Vandenbranden joined the artists' group "Art Abstrait" in 1956. Vandenbranden worked completely geometrically abstract from 1954 on and practiced this visual language consistently until his death in 2014. Michel Seuphor
Fernand Berckelaers (10 March 1901, in Borgerhout – 12 February 1999, in Paris), pseudonym Michel Seuphor ( anagram of Orpheus), was a Belgian painter. Seuphor established a literary magazine, ''Het Overzicht'', in Antwerp in 1921. He moved in Dutch, Belgian, and French avant-garde circles. He associated at various points with Theo van Doesburg and Piet Mondrian, and was influenced by their iconic Neo-plasticist works. Along with Joaquin Torres-Garcia and Pierre Daura, Seuphor founded the abstract artists' group Cercle et Carré which included Wassily Kandinsky and Le Corbusier. In 1934, Seuphor moved to Anduze in the South of France following his marriage. Seuphor wrote and edited three books; ''A Dictionary of Abstract Painting'' (Tudor Publishing Co., 1958), ''Abstract Painting: 50 Years of Accomplishment'' (Dell Laurel Edition, 1964), and "The Sculpture of this Century" (George Braziller, Inc. Koen Van Den Broek
Koen van den Broek (born 1973) is a Belgian artist who lives and works in Antwerp and Seoul, South Korea. Biography Van den Broek was born in 1973 in Bree, Belgium. He trained as an architect at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. At the Academy, Koen was tutored and taught by Fred Bervoets. In 2003 he participated in the SFMOMA- exhibition " Matisse and beyond: A century of modernism" in honor of his mentor. Van den Broek was acquainted with John Baldessari when he went to Los Angeles, not long after his stay at the post-graduate program of the HISK (Higher Institute for Fine Arts) in Antwerp in 2001. Guillaume Bijl
Guillaume Bijl (born 1946 in Antwerp) is a Belgian conceptual and an installation artist. He lives and works in Antwerp. Early life and education Bijl was born in 1946 to a working-class family in Antwerp. The artist's father worked at the local docks and his mother worked for the Bell Telephone Company. A self-taught artist, Bijl came to art as an outsider initially making paintings during the 1960s. During this time, he mimicked numerous artistic movements such as Impressionism, Expressionism, Surrealism, abstract movements and more. During a period of self-guided studies in economics, Bijl worked at a bank in Brussels. Shortly thereafter his parents sent him to a local vocational trade school in the hopes of gaining professional skills.
