Calla (band)
Calla was an Amerixcan indie rock band formed in New York City in 1997 by Aurelio Valle (guitar, vocals), Sean Donovan (bass, keyboards, programming), and Wayne B. Magruder (percussion, programming). Their fifth album, ''Strength in Numbers'', was released in 2007. Texas Valle was raised in South Texas and grew up listening to his Mexican parents' music, which included mariachi, conjuntos and rancheros. During his teen years in the 80's Valle listened to college music and punk rock. Drawing from these musical styles his guitar influences are inspired by the likes of Rowland S. Howard, Duane Eddy, Kid Congo Powers, Chet Atkins, Lee Ronaldo, Will Sergeant, and Johnny Marr. He met Peter Gannon during his second year in high school. Both citing bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Smiths as influences, they decided to form a band. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. The sound of indie rock has its origins in the New Zealand Dunedin sound of the Chills, Tall Dwarfs, the Clean and the Verlaines, and early 1980s college rock radio stations who would frequently play jangle pop bands like the Smiths and R.E.M. Jonathan Fire*Eater was an American indie rock band best known as a progenitor of the post-punk revival in New York City. The line-up was Stewart Lupton (vocals), Tom Frank (bass), Paul Maroon (guitar and pedal steel), Matt Barrick (drums), and Walter Martin (organs, keyboards). The band broke up during their height in 1998; after the band's break-up, Maroon, Barrick, and Martin went on to form The Walkmen. The Factory
The Factory was Andy Warhol's art studio in Manhattan, New York City, which had four locations between 1963 and 1987. The Factory became famous for its parties in the 1960s. It was the hip hangout spot for artists, musicians, celebrities, and Warhol's superstars. The original Factory is referred to as the Silver Factory. In the studio, Warhol and his assistants would make silkscreen paintings and underground films. The Factory later became the headquarters of his enterprise. The Jesus And Mary Chain
The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983. The band revolves around the songwriting partnership of brothers Jim and William Reid, who are the two founders and only consistent members of the band since its formation. They are recognized as key figures in the development of the shoegaze and noise pop subgenres. The band have had twelve top 40 entries and two top 10 hits in the UK Singles Chart in the course of their career. The Reid brothers recruited Douglas Hart on bass and Murray Dalglish on drums as their initial lineup.
