Calista, Western Australia
Calista is a southern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kwinana. Calista is one of the Kwinana suburbs named after a ship. ''Calista'' was one of the first ships to bring settlers to the Swan River Colony. She arrived with 73 passengers on 5 August 1829 under the command of Captain S. Hawkins. Two of the most notable passengers on the ship were Lionel and William Samson. Calista is home to the Kwinana Adventure Park which was voted the Western Australia’s joint Favourite Playground in 2021. References External links

Calista, Kansas
Calista is an unincorporated community in Kingman County, Kansas, United States. It was named from the Greek Callista, meaning "most beautiful". History Calista became a community in 1886 after the community of Maud (1881-1886) was moved there. This original community known as "Old Calista" lasted until 1896 when the community had to be moved to make way for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. "New" Calista was founded about two miles west-southwest of "Old" Calista and was a town until 1955. Now Calista only has a few buildings remaining and a small grain elevator open for about two weeks a year during the wheat harvest. Geography Calista is located in southern Kansas about nine miles west of the city of Kingman and is near the south bank of the Ninnescah River. Calista Corporation (pronounced ) is one of thirteen Alaska Native Regional Corporations created under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971 (ANCSA) in settlement of aboriginal land claims. Calista was incorporated in Alaska on June 12, 1972. Although the Calista region is in western Alaska, Calista Corporation is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska. Calista is a for-profit corporation with 34,500 Alaska Native shareholders primarily of Yup'ik descent. The name Calista (''worker'') is a portmanteau of the Central Alaskan Yup'ik words ''cali-'', meaning "to work," and ''-ista'', meaning someone or something which does. The Yup'ik language does not have a word for "corporation". As part of ANCSA, Calista received patent for from the federal government as well as approximately $80 million, making it the second largest corporation established under ANCSA. Calista Kay Flockhart (born November 11, 1964) is an American actress. Calista H. Vinton (19 April 1807 – 18 December 1864) was an American Baptist missionary who labored for 30 years in Burma (now known as Myanmar) preaching, teaching and caring amongst the Karen people. Both Calista and her husband Justus Vinton were eminently successful in making conversions. Early life Calista Vinton was born on to Thomas and Lavinia Holman in Union, Connecticut. When she was sixteen years old she had a severe illness. After two years, her family and doctors had given up hope. Being a pious girl, she requested baptism as her dying wish and was carried on a chair and helped by the pastor and a deacon into a brook and baptized in March, 1822. She was received into the West Woodstock Baptist Church, and pastor Elder Grow, while administering the Lord's Supper to her, said "This is our sister's first communion, and it will probably be her last."
