California Rodeo Salinas Hall Of Fame
The California Rodeo Salinas Hall of Fame is a cowboy hall of fame. Established in 2010 by the California Rodeo Salinas, the hall of fame recognizes and awards those individuals who helped build the rodeo and those rodeo performers who helped the rodeo become one of the top 20 professional rodeos in the United States as well as the top rodeo in California. The hall of fame divides the inductees into categories: Committee Members, Performers, Livestock, Contestants, Notables, Supporters/Contributors & Staff. Salinas, California, Salinas is a major stop on the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) circuit. The Salinas rodeo (pronounced the Spanish way: "roDAYo") began in 1911 as a Wild West Show on the site of the old race track ground, now the Salinas Sports Complex. Ty Monroe Murray (born October 11, 1969), is an American nine-time World Champion professional rodeo cowboy. He was one of the top rodeo contestants in the world from the late 1980s to early 2000s. He is an inductee of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the all-around category. He is one of the co-founders and a board adviser of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR). From 2005 to 2020, he was also a regular color commentator for several televised PBR events. Early life Ty Murray was born on October 11, 1969, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Harold "Butch" and Joy Murray. Gene Rambo
Gene Rambo (June 12, 1920 – February 21, 1988) was an American rodeo cowboy who competed in International Rodeo Association (IRA) events in the 1940s and 1950s. Rambo won the IRA's all-around cowboy season championship four times between 1946 and 1950. He took part in numerous disciplines, including saddle bronc riding, steer roping, steer wrestling, and tie-down roping. Rambo was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1989. Biography Rambo was born in San Miguel, California, on June 12, 1920. His father was a ranch foreman in Monterey County. By the age of seven, Rambo was helping to train horses. Rob Smets
Robert Edward "Rob" Smets (born September 11, 1959, Palo Alto, California), known professionally as The Kamikaze Kid, is an American former professional rodeo bullfighter. Biography Smets was born in Palo Alto, California to Bill and Ebe Smets. As a child, he lived in Thailand, Singapore, Puerto Rico, and Australia. After returning to the United States as a teenager, he lived in San Martin, California and attended Palma High School in Salinas. He entered high school rodeos starting in his sophomore year. In 2012, Rob Smets starred in Jägermeister's "A Stronger Bond" television and digital campaign. Career While bull riding as a teenager, Smets taunted some of the bullfighters for not protecting riders well enough after the riders fell. Casey Tibbs
Casey Duane Tibbs (March 5, 1929 – January 28, 1990) was a rodeo cowboy, and actor. In 1979, he was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame. Life and career Tibbs was born to John F. Tibbs (1886–1948) and Florence M. Tibbs (1889–1974) in rural Orton northwest of Fort Pierre in Stanley County in central South Dakota. He was of English descent. He held the " World All-Around Cowboy Champion" title twice, in 1951 and 1955. He won in 1949, 1951–1954, and 1959, the world saddle bronc riding championship and in 1951 world bareback bronc riding championship. He was featured on the October 22, 1951 cover of ''Life'' magazine. He moved in 1976 to Ramona, California, to raise and breed horses. After battling bone cancer and then lung cancer for about a year, he died at his home in Ramona, while watching the 1990 Super Bowl. Oscar (bull)
Oscar #16 (d. 1983) was a ProRodeo Hall of Fame bucking bull. The hall of fame inducted Oscar in its 1979 inaugural class of inductees. To date, only seven bulls have been inducted, which is the highest honor a bucking bull can receive in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). The California Rodeo Salinas inducted Oscar into its hall of fame in 2013. In 2018, the Bull Riding Hall of Fame inducted Oscar. In over 300 attempts, only eight bull riders made qualified rides of the requisite eight seconds on Oscar. Eight-time world champion bull rider Don Gay made the highest-scored ride on him at the time, earning 97 points, just 3 points short of a perfect score.
