California Heritage Museum is located in Santa Monica, California in the historically lankmarked Roy Jones house on Main Street. History The property itself is a landmarked house known as the First Roy Jones House and it was moved to this location in 1977 from 1007 Ocean. The house was landmarked in 1979 and the museum opened a year later. It was originally named the Santa Monica Heritage Museum and changed its name in the 90's tto the California Heritage Museum. The museum has regular exhibits on subjects like surfing, skateboard and Native American culture that highlight subject matters relevant to Santa Monica and California. The property's ample parking lot and grounds are often used to participate and host community based events including a weekly food truck bazaar. Sumner Hunt
Sumner P. Hunt (Brooklyn, NY, May 8, 1865 – Los Angeles, CA, November 19, 1938) was an architect in Los Angeles from 1888 to the 1930s. On January 21, 1892, he married Mary Hancock Chapman, January 21, 1892. They had a daughter Louise Hunt. Life and career Hunt initially apprenticed with and worked for Clarence B. Cutler in Troy, NY from 1879–1887, and in his later career made claim to having worked in Cutler's office in New York City from 1888 to 1889. However, New York City directories make no mention of a Sumner Hunt as city resident and do not include a business listing for Clarence Cutler Architects during those two years. The 1888 Los Angeles City Directory lists Hunt as a resident, living in a rooming house on the east side of Hill Street north of Fifth Street. Jeff Ho Surfboards and Zephyr Productions was a surfboard manufacturing facility and surf shop located in Santa Monica, California, that opened in 1971 and closed in 1976. The building was designated as a City Landmark in 2007. History In 1971, Jeff Ho, Skip Engblom and Craig Stecyk opened Jeff Ho Surfboards and Zephyr Productions, a surf shop in Santa Monica, California and also used the south wing of the facility for manufacturing their surfboards. The building is located at 2001–2011 Main Street. The surf shop closed in 1979, and was reopened in 1981 by Nathan Pratt as Horizons West Surf Shop. That shop closed in August 2010. The space reopened as a coffee shop called Dogtown Coffee in August 2012. Significance Jeff Ho and Skip Engblom formed the Zephyr Surf Team, made up of local surfers who frequented Pacific Ocean Park in the run-down area of Dogtown.
