California Flag
California Flag is a thoroughbred racehorse, foaled at Hi Card Ranch on February 19, 2004. He is sired by Avenue of Flags, a son of Seattle Slew, out of the Afleet (a son of Mr. Prospector) mare Ultrafleet. He is best known for setting a new turf course record in 2008 in the Morvich Handicap and the only horse to win this race three times - 2008, 2009 and 2011. On November 7, 2009, he got the most important win of his career beating Gotta Have Her in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. California Flag then went to Hong Kong where he finished fifth in the Hong Kong Sprint. He then traveled to Dubai to contest in the new Al Quoz Sprint and he was third after just getting overtaken at the wire. Seattle Slew
Seattle Slew (February 15, 1974 – May 7, 2002) was a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who became the tenth winner of the American Triple Crown (1977). He is one of only two horses to have won the Triple Crown while being undefeated in any previous race; the second was Justify who won the Triple Crown in 2018 and is descended from Seattle Slew. Seattle Slew was the 1977 Horse of the Year and a champion at ages two, three, and four. In the ''Blood-Horse'' magazine List of the Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century Seattle Slew was ranked ninth. Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint
The Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint is a Weight for Age stakes race for thoroughbred racehorses three years old and up. As its name implies, it is a part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, the ''de facto'' year-end championship for North American thoroughbred racing. The distance of the race will vary depending on the host track's turf course requirements. The race was run for the first time in 2008 during the second day of Breeders' Cup racing at that year's host track, Santa Anita Park. The 2008 race was held at a distance of six and a half furlongs and was contested on Santa Anita's signature El Camino Real "downhill" turf course. Besides Santa Anita, the only tracks in North America capable of contesting turf sprints at six and a half furlongs are Woodbine and Belmont. Dancing in Silks (foaled March 2, 2005 in California) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the 2009 Breeders' Cup Sprint at Santa Anita Park. A 4-year-old gelding, Dancing in Silks was bred by Ronald E. Jex. The horse races for Ken Kinakin and is trained by Carla Gaines. Dancing in Silks is the only horse owned by Ken Kinakin, a 48-year-old Canadian businessman from Kelowna, British Columbia. Al Quoz Sprint is a thoroughbred horse race held in Meydan Racecourse, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was first run in 2007 as part of the then, Dubai International Racing Carnival and subsequently moved to Dubai World Cup night in 2010 to coincide with the opening of Meydan Racecourse . In 2009, it became a Group 3 and is now run at Group 1 level. Initially run over 1200m, in 2011, the race was shortened to a 1000-metre (5 furlongs) sprint. The Hong Kong Sprint is a Group 1 flat horse race in Hong Kong which is open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run over a distance of 1,200 metres (about 6 furlongs) at Sha Tin, and it is scheduled to take place each year in mid December. The race was first run in 1999, and it was originally contested over 1,000 metres. It was richest 1,000m horse race in the world before 2006. The Breeders' Cup World Championships is an annual series of Grade I Thoroughbred horse races, operated by Breeders' Cup Limited, a company formed in 1982. From its inception in 1984 through 2006, it was a single-day event; starting in 2007, it expanded to two days. All sites have been in the United States, except in 1996, when the races were at the Woodbine Racetrack in Canada. The attendance at the Breeders' Cup varies, depending mainly on the capacity of the host track. Santa Anita Park set the highest two-day attendance figure of 118,484 in 2016. The lowest two-day attendance was 69,584 in 2007 at Monmouth Park. Afleet (1984 - 2014) was a Canadian-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who was voted the 1987 Canadian Horse of the Year and Canadian Champion Three-Year-Old Male Horse, Canadian Champion Three-Year-Old Colt. Career Afleet's best season came in 1987 during his three-year-old campaign, in which he won six races in ten starts. These wins include the Jerome Handicap (G1) and Pennsylvania Derby (G2) in the United States plus the Friar Rock Stakes, Queenston Stakes and Plate Trial Stakes in Canada. He also placed in the Monmouth Cup, Meadowlands Cup Handicap (G1) and the Queen's Plate. Afleet's only finished below third on two occasions with a fifth place in the Marine Stakes, and a tenth-place finish in the Breeders Cup Classic (G1).
