Calgary Queens Park was a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1963 to 1971. History The riding was created from a slice of Calgary Bowness during the 1963 election. The riding disappeared when it was merged with Calgary North to create Calgary-McKnight during the 1971 election. The riding was a thin strip that ran north from Downtown to the north end city limits, and on the west side of Centre Street. Calgary-McKnight was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1971 to 1993. History The Calgary-McKnight electoral district was created in the 1971 electoral boundary re-distribution from a merger of Calgary-North and Calgary Queens Park. In the 1993 electoral boundary re-distribution, Calgary-McKnight expanded and was renamed to Calgary Nose Creek. Calgary-McKnight was named because McKnight Boulevard the main east west artery in the north at the time, cut through the middle of the riding. Alberta provincial electoral districts are currently single member ridings that each elect one member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. There are 87 districts fixed in law in Alberta. History The original twenty five districts were drawn up by Liberal Member of Parliament Frank Oliver prior to the first general election of 1905. The original boundaries were widely regarded as being gerrymandered to favour the Alberta Liberal Party, although the Liberal Party did receive the majority of votes in the 1905 election and thus rightly formed majority government. Every boundary redistribution since 1905 has been based on the original boundaries, with districts being split or merged. From 1905 to 1926 with only a few exceptions each district elected a single member on the First Past the Post system. Centre Street is a major road in Calgary, Alberta, and defines the east and west halves of the city for the purposes of street addresses (i.e. NW, SW, NE, SE). Route description The main segment of Centre Street is an arterial road that extends from 9 Avenue S, at the base of the Calgary Tower in Downtown Calgary. The roadway passes through Chinatown, crosses the Bow River, to the Beddington Boulevard, after which it becomes a residential street and becomes unavailable to private vehicular traffic north of Bergen Crescent (the road continues, but it is only accessible to Calgary Transit and emergency vehicles). The road resumes immediately north of the "bus trap" at Beddington Trail, where it continues as Harvest Hills Boulevard.
