Calgary Municipal Election, 2010
The 2010 Calgary municipal election was held Monday, October 18, 2010 to elect a mayor and 14 aldermen to the city council, the seven trustees to the Calgary School District (each representing 2 of 14 wards), and four of the seven trustees to the Calgary Catholic School District (each representing 2 of 14 wards). Three incumbent separate school trustees had no challengers. A new mayor was to be elected, as the three term incumbent Dave Bronconnier did not seek re-election. Since 1968, provincial legislation has required every municipality to hold triennial elections. The voter turnout was 53%, a significant increase from previous elections. Calgary City Council
The Calgary City Council is the legislative governing body that represents the citizens of Calgary. The council consists of 15 members: the chief elected official, titled the mayor, and 14 councillors. Jyoti Gondek was elected mayor in October 2021 as the city's 37th. Jon Lord (politician)
Jonathan Joseph Lord (December 29, 1956 – March 25, 2014) was a Canadian politician and member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from Alberta, Canada. Early life Lord was born Jonathan Joseph Brown in Calgary and raised in on a homestead in rural Central Alberta. Lord started his first business at age 18 (A Appolo Painting - named as such so that it would be listed in the first page of the phone book) and has owned and operated small businesses ever since. As a young adult, Brown, a diehard fan of the band Deep Purple, changed his surname to Lord as a tribute to one of their founders, Jon Lord. An acclamation is a form of election that does not use a ballot. It derives from the ancient Roman word ''acclamatio'', a kind of ritual greeting and expression of approval towards imperial officials in certain social contexts.
