Calgary Cup
The Calgary Cup was a four-team ice hockey tournament held from December 26, 1986, to January 3, 1987, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It was a preview event for the 1988 Winter Olympics, and featured the national hockey teams of Canada, Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union and the United States. All games were held at the Olympic Saddledome. The tournament was won by Czechoslovakia, who defeated the Soviet Union 3–2 in the gold medal game. Canada won the bronze. Jiri Hrdina was named the tournament's top forward, Jaroslav Benak was named top defenceman and Yevgeni Belosheikin the top goaltender. Legendary Soviet goaltender Vladislav Tretiak was the honorary chairman of the tournament. Many future National Hockey League players played in the Calgary Cup. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. In ice hockey, two opposing teams use ice hockey sticks to control, advance and shoot a closed, vulcanized, rubber disc called a " puck" into the other team's goal. Each goal is worth one point. The team which scores the most goals is declared the winner. In a formal game, each team has six skaters on the ice at a time, barring any penalties, one of whom is the goaltender. Cliff Ronning
Clifford John Ronning (born October 1, 1965) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward. He was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the seventh round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, 134th overall. During a National Hockey League (NHL) career that spanned 18 years, Ronning played for the Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Phoenix Coyotes, Nashville Predators, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders. Playing career Ronning played minor hockey in Burnaby. He led his midget team to the 1982 Air Canada Cup, where they won the gold medal. Ronning was named Most Valuable player and led the tournament in scoring. Andrei Khomutov
Andrei Valentinovich Khomutov (russian: Андрей Валентинович Хомутов; born April 21, 1961) is a Russian former ice hockey right winger. He was the head coach for Barys Astana of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and Kazakhstan national team during 2010–2011 season. He played for CSKA Moscow (Red Army team) from 1979–1990, then in Switzerland for HC Fribourg-Gottéron from 1990–1998. He was most valuable player in the Soviet league in 1990, and also led the league in goals in 1988. Patrick John Micheletti (born December 11, 1963) is an American former ice hockey center who played 12 games in the National Hockey League with the Minnesota North Stars during the 1987–88 season. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1986 to 1992, was mainly spent in the Italian Serie A. The North Stars selected Micheletti with the 185th overall pick in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. He also played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers men's ice hockey team. Max Middendorf
Max C. Middendorf (born August 18, 1967) is an American retired ice hockey player. He played 13 games in the National Hockey League with the Quebec Nordiques and Edmonton Oilers between 1986 and 1990. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1986 to 1998, was mainly spent in the minor leagues. Playing career The 6 ft 4in (195 cm) center was drafted by the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League in 1984. He joined the OHL club after a spectacular offensive season with the New Jersey Rockets, where he netted 94 goals and 168 points in 58 games as a 16-year-old. In 63 games with the Wolves in his rookie year he produced 16 goals and 44 points along with a noticeable willingness to play a rough and tumble game, with 106 minutes in penalties. Christopher Robin Felix (born May 27, 1964) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. The Harlem Globetrotters are an American exhibition basketball team. They combine athleticism, theater, and comedy in their style of play. Created in 1926 by Tommy Brookins in Chicago, Illinois, the team adopted the name ''Harlem'' because of its connotations as a major African-American community. Washington Generals
The Washington Generals are an United States, American basketball team who play Exhibition game, exhibition games against the Harlem Globetrotters. The team has also played under several different Pseudonym, aliases in their history as the Globetrotters' perennial opponents. Function The Generals exist primarily as a part of the Harlem Globetrotters' act, effectively being Straight man (stock character), stooges for the Globetrotters. While the Globetrotters play tricks and spectacular displays of skill for the crowd, the Generals attempt to play a "normal" game of basketball. Craig Patrick
Craig Patrick (born May 20, 1946) is an American former hockey player, coach and general manager, the son of Lynn Patrick and the grandson of Lester Patrick. During the 1980 Winter Olympics, Patrick was the Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach under Herb Brooks for the United States men's national ice hockey team, which won the gold medal and defeated the Soviet Union in the "Miracle on Ice". From 1989 to 2006, Patrick was the General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins where he oversaw back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 1991 and 1992, as well as the drafting and signing of some players that would later win a Stanley Cup title for the Penguins in 2009. David King (born December 22, 1947) is a Canadian hockey coach who has been head coach in the National Hockey League (NHL), the Russian Super League, Kontinental Hockey League, Western Hockey League, the Winter Olympics, and the IIHF World Junior Championships.
