Calgary-Greenway is a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The district was created in the 2010 boundary redistribution and is mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first-past-the-post voting system. Prabhdeep Gill
Prabhdeep Gill ( pa, ਪ੍ਰਭਦੀਪ ਗਿੱਲ; born c. 1975) is a Canadian politician and a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. He was elected in the 2016 Calgary-Greenway by-election to replace Manmeet Bhullar, who had died in a car accident between Calgary and Edmonton. Background Gill was a member of the Appeals Panel for Human Services Alberta, prior to being elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly. Political career Gill won the nomination for the PC candidate in the 2016 Calgary-Greenway byelection, after being first appointed by the party. The initial appointment drew controversy, as it appeared that the party establishment was preventing an open nomination process. As such, Gill's initial nomination was withdrawn by interim leader Ric McIver, though he won the nomination by election two days after. The 29th Alberta Legislative Assembly was constituted after the general election on May 5, 2015. The New Democrats, led by Rachel Notley, won a majority of seats and formed the government. The Wildrose Party, which won the second most seats, formed the official opposition until July 2017, when it merged with the Progressive Conservatives, to become the United Conservative Party, which then became the official opposition. Calgary-Falconridge is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada. The district will be one of 87 districts mandated to return a single member (MLA) to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting. It was contested for the first time in the 2019 Alberta election. Geography The district is located in northeastern Calgary, containing the neighbourhoods of Whitehorn, Temple, Castleridge, Falconridge, Coral Springs, and the eastern part of Taradale. Manmeet Bhullar
Manmeet Singh Bhullar ( pa, ਮਨਮੀਤ ਭੁੱਲਰ) (March 1, 1980 – November 23, 2015) was a Canadian politician and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta who represented the constituency of Calgary-Greenway as a Progressive Conservative. He served as a cabinet minister from 2011 until the defeat of the Progressive Conservative government in 2015. He was widely seen as a rising star in the Progressive Conservative caucus. Bhullar was killed when he was struck by a tractor trailer on a road when he went to help a stranded motorist on November 23, 2015. Early life Bhullar was born March 1, 1980 in the community of Penbrooke Meadows in Calgary. Calgary-Bhullar-McCall is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. It was created in 1971, and was named after Frederick McCall and the McCall Industrial Park. As of the 2010 redistricting, the industrial park is no longer in the boundaries. In December 2021, a bill was passed renaming the constituency to Calgary-Bhullar-McCall in remembrance of late MLA Manmeet Bhullar. The district includes the neighbourhoods of Castleridge, Falconridge, Martindale, Saddleridge, and Skyview Ranch, and is noted for its high levels of ethnic diversity. The Alberta Electoral Boundary Re-distribution, 2010 was a re-distribution of the boundaries of 87 Alberta electoral districts which elect a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Calgary Montrose was a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1986 to 2012. History This urban district located in central east Calgary was created in the 1986 boundary re-distribution from Calgary-McCall. Chestermere-Rocky View was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first-past-the-post method of voting from 2012 to 2019. History Boundary history Chestermere-Rocky View was created from large portions of the old electoral district of Airdrie-Chestermere and Foothills-Rocky View in the 2010 Alberta boundary re-distribution. Calgary-Fort was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1997 to 2019. History The Riding covers some of the cities older blue collar neighbourhoods including Forest Lawn, Dover, Inglewood, Lynwood Ridge, Ogden, Erin Woods and the Foothills Industrial Park.
