Calexcitin
Calexcitin is a calcium-binding protein first isolated from the sea snail ''Hermissenda crassicornis''. It is upregulated following Pavlovian conditioning Classical conditioning (also known as Pavlovian or respondent conditioning) is a behavioral procedure in which a biologically potent stimulus (e.g. food) is paired with a previously neutral stimulus (e.g. a triangle). It also refers to the learni .... Calexcitin has four EF-hand motifs that possess different functions while the fourth one is nonfunctional. Calexcitin has the tendency to regulate K+ channels. In addition, Calexcitin also shows a sign of GTP binding protein in which that binds to Ca2+. Calexcitin is neuronal-specific and becomes phosphorylated and upregulated in learning of association. EF-hand motifs Calexcitin which has four EF-hand motifs. The first three function in the binding metal ions which are from EF-1 to EF-3. EF-1 and EF-2 contain the proclivity into binding with Mg2+ and Ca2+. However, the EF-3 ...

Calcium-binding Protein
Calcium-binding proteins are proteins that participate in calcium cell signalling pathways by binding to Ca2+, the calcium ion that plays an important role in many cellular processes. Calcium-binding proteins have specific domains that bind to calcium and are known to be heterogeneous. One of the functions of calcium binding proteins is to regulate the amount of free (unbound) Ca2+ in the cytosol of the cell. The cellular regulation of calcium is known as calcium homeostasis. Types Many different calcium-binding proteins exist, with different cellular and tissue distribution and involvement in specific functions. Calcium binding proteins also serve an important physiological role for cells. The most ubiquitous Ca2+-sensing protein, found in all eukaryotic organisms including yeasts, is calmodulin. Intracellular storage and release of Ca2+ from the sarcoplasmic reticulum is associated with the high-capacity, low-affinity calcium-binding protein calsequestrin. Calretinin is another ...

Hermissenda Crassicornis
''Hermissenda crassicornis'', also known as the opalescent nudibranch or thick-horned nudibranch, is a species of brightly coloured, sea slug or nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Facelinidae.Rosenberg, G. (2011)''Hermissenda crassicornis'' (Eschscholtz, 1831).Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species on 2012-06-03 Distribution This nudibranch lives from Kodiak Island, Alaska, to Northern California. It is replaced by '' Hermissenda opalescens'' to the south of Northern California. Habitat This species is found in various habitats, including the intertidal zone of rocky shores, but also in bays and estuaries. Description The species grows to be about 50 mm, or about 2 inches. The colour of this nudibranch varies from one locality to another, but it is always easily recognizable by the orange stripe along its head area and the white stripes on the cerata.Thomas, C., 2007 (Apr 4''Colour variation in ''Hermissenda crassicornis''.'' essage inSe ...

Pavlovian Conditioning
Classical conditioning (also known as Pavlovian or respondent conditioning) is a behavioral procedure in which a biologically potent stimulus (e.g. food) is paired with a previously neutral stimulus (e.g. a triangle). It also refers to the learning process that results from this pairing, through which the neutral stimulus comes to elicit a response (e.g. salivation) that is usually similar to the one elicited by the potent stimulus. Classical conditioning is distinct from operant conditioning (also called instrumental conditioning), through which the strength of a voluntary behavior is modified by reinforcement or punishment. However, classical conditioning can affect operant conditioning in various ways; notably, classically conditioned stimuli may serve to reinforce operant responses. Classical conditioning was first studied in detail by Ivan Pavlov, who conducted experiments with dogs and published his findings in 1897. During the Russian physiologist's study of digestion, Pav ...
