Cala Foods
Cala Foods was a supermarket chain operating in San Francisco, California. Cala Foods was the sister chain to Bell Markets. The last Cala Foods store closed its doors on December 1, 2011. History Cala Foods was established in 1947 by the seven brothers of the Cala family. Cala Foods acquired the QFI supermarket chain in 1973. The company merged with Bell Markets in the mid-1970s. Bell Markets was founded in the 1940s when Dominick Bell and his two brothers opened a supermarket in San Francisco. Cala Foods was the first supermarket chain in San Francisco to stay open 24 hours per day, and one of the first in the US to use checkout scanners. The chain would eventually extend as far south as Santa Clara County and as far north as Marin County. The Cala Foods chain was purchased by the Yucaipa Companies in 1988. Geoffrey Philip Simon (born 3 July 1946) is an Australian conductor resident in London. Recordings Geoffrey Simon was born on 3 July 1946 in Adelaide. He was a student of Herbert von Karajan, Rudolf Kempe, Hans Swarowsky and Igor Markevitch, and a major prize-winner at the first John Player International Conductors' Award. He has made 45 recordings for a number of labels, combining familiar works with world premieres of rediscovered obscure works by Tchaikovsky, Respighi, Borodin, Mussorgsky, Smetana, Grainger, Debussy, Ravel, Saint-Saëns and Les Six. The Lamborghini Calà (also known as the Italdesign Calà) was a concept car designed for Lamborghini by Italdesign Giugiaro. It was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show#1995, 1995 Geneva Motor Show. It was a completely functional prototype that never made it into production. Its name was derived from the Piedmontese dialect of Northern Italy and meant “look, over there!” The Calà was envisioned by Italdesign to fill Lamborghini's need for a replacement for the Lamborghini Jalpa, Jalpa, production of which was discontinued in 1988 at the behest of then owners of the company, Chrysler. When Chrysler sold Lamborghini to Megatech (Indonesian company), Megatech in 1994, the Calà's design took shape, but when Megatech sold Lamborghini to the Volkswagen Group in 1998, the concept was shelved. Ugo Calà (9 August 1904 – 10 July 1983) was an Italian chess player. Biography In the 1920s Ugo Calà participated in two team matches against the Syracuse team and ranking in 2nd place in the second regional chess tournament in Palermo. Then, after graduating in engineering, he moved permanently to Rome. Ugo Calà participated in the chess tournaments of Foligno (1924) and in 1925 he won the title of Rome chess champion. His career was from that moment studded with numerous successes and affirmations both nationally and internationally. Career Cala rode the first bicycle at his 14 years old, it was borrow from his cousin because he did not have its own bike.
