Caffè Vita Coffee Roasting Company, commonly known as Caffè Vita, is an American coffee roasting company based in Seattle, Washington. Part of the third wave of coffee movement, it has been named one of 10 places offering "the best coffee in America." Caffè Vita was founded in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood in 1995 by Mike McConnell. McConnell was an early proponent of developing direct relationships with coffee farmers and bypassing the ''fair trade'' of coffee, thus pioneering the Farm Direct movement. On January 1, 2020, local restaurateur Deming Maclise took over ownership at Caffe Vita. Capitol Hill is a densely populated residential district in Seattle, Washington, United States. One of the city's most popular nightlife and entertainment districts, it is home to a historic gay village and vibrant counterculture community. FareStart
FareStart is a nonprofit organization in Seattle, Washington, US, that provides restaurant industry job training for the disadvantaged and homeless. History FareStart originally started as a for-profit provider of meals to homeless shelters under the name Common Meals, but became a non-profit in 1992. Common Meals was established in 1988 by David Lee. In 2011, FareStart received the “Humanitarian of the Year” award from the James Beard Foundation. In March 2020, FareStart converted their operations to feed those in need during the global coronavirus pandemic. Food was donated from restaurants and organizations that had to close down. Precautions were made to keep the staff safe while they prepared meals for 70 local organizations. As of May 2023, they have produced 5.9 million meals and enrolled close to 600 people in their training programs. Woodland Park Zoo is a wildlife conservation organization and zoological garden located in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, United States. It is the recipient of over 65 awards across multiple categories, and had served approximately 1.4 million domestic and international visitors in 2019. History Occupying the western half of Woodland Park, the zoo began as a small menagerie on the estate of Guy C. Phinney, a Canadian-born lumber mill owner and real estate developer. Trans Lifeline is a peer support and crisis hotline 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving transgender people by offering phone support and microgrants. It is the first transgender crisis hotline to exist in the United States as well as Canada. It is also the only suicide hotline whose operators are all transgender (binary or non-binary).
