Caetité
Caetité is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Bahia. It is located in the semi-arid ''sertão'' region in the interior of the state. It had an estimated 51,081 inhabitants as of 2020. It covers and is from the state capital, Salvador. Caetité borders on ten other municipalities, all within Bahia: Igaporã, Guanambi, Pindaí, Licínio de Almeida, Caculé, Ibiassucê, Lagoa Real, Livramento do Brumado, Paramirim, and Tanque Novo. Its economy is primarily based on mining, notably of amethyst, uranium, iron and manganese. Caetité is the only producer of uranium in Latin America. It is an important cultural center of the state of Bahia, and has a historic center with numerous protected buildings. Igaporã
Igaporã is a municipality in the state of Bahia in the North-East region of Brazil. It is located in the semi-arid ''sertão'' region in the interior of the state. It had an estimated 15,650 inhabitants as of 2020. It covers and is from the state capital, Salvador. It is located in the southwest region of Bahia close to the Chapada Diamantina, a mountainous region of the state. Igaporã became an independent municipality by the State Law 556 of March, 25th 1953, and its territory was dismembered from the neighboring municipality of Caetité. Waldick Soriano
Eurípedes Waldick Soriano (May 13, 1933 in Caetité – September 4, 2008 in Rio de Janeiro) was a Brazilian singer–songwriter, best known as a composer and singer of songs in the brega style. Biography Soriano was born in Bahia, where he lived and worked as a truck driver, prospector, and in manual labor until he was 25. He moved to São Paulo in 1959, where he began working at Rádio Nacional. His first album was issued in 1960, and his style of dramatic, sentimental songs became popular throughout Brazil. Anísio Teixeira
Anísio Spínola Teixeira (July 12, 1900 — March 11, 1971) was a Brazilian educator, jurist, and writer. Teixeira was one of the reformers of Brazilian education of the early 20th century, being an advocate of progressive education in the country. He was one of the co-founders of the University of the Federal District, in 1935, and of the University of Brasília in 1960. Life and career Teixeira was born in Caetité, in the state of Bahia, child of an influent landowner family. He studied at Jesuit schools in his hometown and in Salvador and graduated in Law at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1922. Pataxó
The Pataxó are an indigenous people in Bahia, Brazil with a population of about 11,800 individuals. They once spoke the Pataxó language, but now speak Portuguese and a revitalized version of the Pataxó language called Patxohã. The Pataxó's territory is part of a wider region traditionally inhabited by the group. The region was mainly converted into private farms by settlers who persecuted the Pataxó, and in 1961, they were expelled from the largest remaining forest and integrated into the dominant society, losing their indigenous identity and settling in cities. Others moved to coastal areas, forming new indigenous villages, including Coroa Vermelha, founded in 1972 and now home to approximately 6,000 people.
