CSM U Oradea
CSM Oradea, also known as simply Oradea, is a Romania professional basketball club, based in Oradea, Romania. The club competes in the Liga Națională, the highest level of basketball in Romania. History CSM Oradea was founded in 2003, but the team promoted to the first division in 2005. The team best performance was in 2012 when they reached Romanian Cup semi-finals and in 2013 when the team won the 3rd place. In the 2012–2013 season the team finished on second place at the end of the regular season (23 wins and 7 losses) and qualify for the Play-offs. In the first round the team lost with 3–1 against U Mobitelco Cluj Napoca, and then the team lost 3–1 against future champions Asesoft Ploieşti. The team played for the 3rd place against Gaz Metan Mediaş and won with 2–1. In the 2013–14 season the team made its first European appearance, as they would play in the third tier EuroChallenge. The Liga Națională Baschet de Masculin (LNBM) () is the top-tier professional basketball league of Romania. Founded in 1950, the winner of the league is crowned the Romanian national champion. Currently, the league consists of 24 teams playing in three different divisions. The most successful club in the league's history is Dinamo București, who has won a record 22 titles. The clubs from the Liga Națională also participate in the European competitions, as they can qualify for the Basketball Champions League or the FIBA Europe Cup based on their performance in the national league and cup competition. The 2013–14 Liga Națională season was the 64th season of the Liga Națională, the highest professional basketball league in Romania. The first half of the season consisted of 14 teams and 182-game regular season (26 games for each of the 14 teams). The season began on 5 October 2013 and ended on 5 April 2014, just before the playoffs. Preview The 2013–14 season had only 14 teams after CSS Giurgiu give up his place and CSM Bucuresti merge with new promoted team Steaua Bucharest resulting Steaua CSM EximBank Bucharest. Daniel James Dillon (born 19 March 1986) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Waverley Falcons of the NBL1 South. He played college basketball for the Arizona Wildcats before starting his professional career in the Australian NBL. He has since played in Europe and Asia. Mihai Gavrilă (; b. October 16, 1929, Cluj) is a Romanian quantum physicist and a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy since 1974. He made fundamental contributions to the quantum theories of electromagnetic interactions with atoms. Education His parents were Ion and Florica Gavrilă (née Vișoiu). The 2016–17 Liga Națională season was the 67th season of the Liga Națională (men's basketball), Liga Națională, the highest professional basketball league in Romania. CSM U Oradea was the defending champion. Competition format The Romanian Basketball Federation agreed a change in the competition format for the 2016–17 season: * 11 teams played the regular season, consisting in a double-legged round robin format. * At the end of the regular season, teams are split into two groups, one of them composed by the first six teams and the other one by the rest.
