CPR Toronto Yard
CPR Toronto Yard is a facility located in northeast Toronto, Ontario, Canada, often incorrectly referred to as Agincourt Yard because it is located in Agincourt, a neighbourhood of Toronto. One of the largest marshalling yards in Canada (432 acres site with of track and 311 switches), the Toronto Yard is used to switch freight cars. The yard is divided up into the following (North to South): A Yard, consisting of ten tracks. B Yard, consisting of ten tracks. C Yard, formerly consisting of 72 classification tracks. D Yard, former railcar repair shop area. Partially taken over by the diesel shop. E Yard, Diesel Shop tracks. F Yard, consisting of ten tracks. G Yard, consisting of five tracks. Prior to being a railyard, the area was home to farms in the area known as Brown's Corners. A large hill, Fisher's Hill, overlooked the area and was leveled to prepare the building of the railyard. Sheppard Avenue
Sheppard Avenue is an east–west principal arterial road in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The street has two distinct branches near its eastern end, with the original route being a collector road leading to Pickering via a turnoff, and the main route following a later-built roadway which runs south to Kingston Road. To avoid name duplication, the Toronto portion of the northern branch was renamed Twyn Rivers Drive. The section of the street entirely in Toronto is (34.2 km) in length, while the Pickering section and Twyn Rivers Dr. is (5.4 km) long. West Toronto Yard
West Toronto Yard is a small marshalling yard for Canadian Pacific Railway on the Galt Subdivision in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The yard was built in 1882 to relieve stress at the Parkdale Yard and is located near Keele Street and Dundas Street West in The Junction. It was once the main yards for Toronto, but was replaced in that role in April 1964 by the CPR Toronto Yard in Agincourt. The roundhouse was demolished in 1998. A Rona retail store stands on the site of the former roundhouse and shops. Additional buildings were located along Keele Street such as the car shops, but were demolished for the Keele Centre at 500-530 Keele Street around the 1970s. The turntable from the roundhouse and transfer table from the erecting shops were saved from destruction and relocated to a garden at the back of the Rona property. CPR Lambton Yard
Lambton Yard is a freight marshalling yard for the Canadian Pacific Railway in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and is located to the west of and contiguous with the West Toronto Yard on the Galt Subdivision. The two were the main freight marshalling yard complex for the CPR in Toronto until replaced by the modern CPR Toronto Yard in Agincourt in April 1964. Built from 1912 to 1913, Lambton served as mechanical and freight facilities. It also had a roundhouse facility from 1913 to 1960. This infrastructure was replaced by an intermodal freight facility which transferred freight between truck and train, the site of which is now a Walmart store. Around the mid-1960s an employee train shuttle works from Lambton over to the Toronto Yard in Agincourt. Finch Avenue is an arterial thoroughfare that travels east–west in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Highland Creek is a river in the Scarborough district of Toronto, Ontario, emptying into Lake Ontario at the eastern end of the Scarborough Bluffs. It is home to several species of fish including trout, carp, bass and salmon. It is a meandering river which, like most rivers in Toronto (including the Don and Humber), travels through a glacial ravine formed after the last Ice Age. Brown's Corners, Toronto
Brown's Corners (also Browns Corners) is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is centered at the corner of Finch Avenue East and Markham Road in the district of Scarborough. David Brown operated a business and post office on the southwest corner. The Post Office was relocated to Malvern Village, 11 MB. but the business continued as a grocery store well into the 1950s. The northwest corner was the Hastings farm. The Hastings farm house was relocated to the Cullen Gardens park in Whitby to await restoration. A huge barn was located at the intersection and remained there long after the farms disappeared. A car dealership replaced the farmhouse and barns.
