''CLPPNG'' is the debut studio album by American hip hop group clipping. It was released on June 10, 2014, through Sub Pop as the follow-up to their debut mixtape ''midcity''. Composition Thomas Quinlan of '' Exclaim!'' writes that the album sees the group continue their combination of musique concrète and gangsta rap, while deeming it more accessible than their earlier work. Fred Thomas of AllMusic deems it a harsh album that fuses "noise frequencies, brutally dark beats, and MC Daveed Diggs' unhinged, often ugly lyrical flow." "Intro" features rapping over a beatless backdrop of feedback reminiscent of Merzbow. "Dream" features a "ringing bell, white noise and tape hiss", while the next track "Get Up" is built solely around the sound of an alarm clock. Daveed Diggs
Daveed Daniele Diggs (born January 24, 1982) is an American actor, rapper, and singer-songwriter. He is the vocalist of the experimental hip hop group Clipping, and in 2015, he originated the dual roles of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the musical ''Hamilton'', for which he won a 2016 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical. Along with the main cast of ''Hamilton'', he was awarded a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album in the same year. Since leaving ''Hamilton'', he played a recurring role in the television series ''Black-ish'' (2016–2018) and co-starred in the films ''Wonder'' (2017) and ''Velvet Buzzsaw'' (2019). Clipping (band)
Clipping (stylized as clipping.) is an American experimental hip hop group from Los Angeles, California. The group consists of rapper Daveed Diggs and producers William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes. History Diggs and Hutson met in grade school, and Hutson and Snipes were college roommates. The group began in 2009 as a remix project, with Hutson and Snipes taking a cappellas of mainstream rap artists and making power electronics (music), power electronics and noise remixes of them to amuse themselves. Diggs joined in 2010 and began to write his own raps over their compositions. They self-released their first album, ''midcity (album), midcity'', on their website on February 5, 2013. Though their expectations were low, and despite minimal promotion, the album was well-received, and five months later, they signed to Sub Pop. ''Wriggle'' is an EP by American experimental hip hop group clipping. Released on June 14, 2016 through Sub Pop record label, it features appearances from artists such as Antwon and Cakes da Killa. The EP consists of tracks that were originally recorded for the group's 2014 debut album CLPPNG but could not be finished in time for its release. For the track ''"Shooter"'', the band recorded themselves firing 15 different guns. The music video for the title track, which is based on a sample from British power electronics band Whitehouse’s ''"Wriggle Like a Fucking Eel"'', was directed by Rodney Ascher and released on June 29, 2016. On May 12, 2021, the band released an "Expanded" edition of the EP, containing the original versions of all tracks except ''"Back Up"'' in addition to five new remixes. Lola Chantrelle Mitchell (born August 7, 1979), better known by her stage name Gangsta Boo, is an American rapper, who was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the second female member (after K-9) of the Memphis-based hip hop group Three 6 Mafia, where she initially rose to prominence. She left the group and label sometime in 2002, months after the release of her second album, '' Both Worlds *69'', due to money disputes and issues regarding promotion of her album. Roger McBride (born December 14, 1968), better known by his stage name King T (formerly known as King Tee), is an American West Coast Hip hop rapper from Compton, California. John Cage
